All Four Seasons: Helping Wedding Dreams Bloom

All Four Seasons Flower & BridalBetty Cardona remembers when newlyweds used to drive off in cars studded with tissue-paper flowers, leaving in their wake the clatter of tin cans against asphalt. Betty was a young girl then, and she spent a lot of time around weddings. That's because her mother, Gloria, worked as a florist and decorator, often allowing Betty to tag along and "help make things pretty." Betty has many memories of wedding scenes---probably as many as most people have about Saturdays at the pool or the park. Apparently, they are good memories, because she continues to create them today, in her own way.

Betty and her husband, Roger, own and operate All Four Seasons Flowers and Bridal shop. With thirty years of experience in the flower business, their resident floral designer is no greenhorn either. In fact, she's Gloria (a.k.a. Mom). This is a family-owned and operated shop, a business that goes out of its way to impress customers and operate by the Golden Rule. Doing that is easier for them now more than ever, as their eldest daughter was recently married. That means the Cardonas have been on both sides of the table, and it shows in their work.

All Four Seasons Flower & BridalThe flower shop at All Four Seasons provides everything from bouquets to hairpieces to centerpieces and pew accents. They do both fresh- and silk-floral arrangements. Though brides sometimes scoff at the latter, Betty makes a pretty compelling argument for going with at least some in your order. Silk arrangements don't wilt, their prices don't fluctuate with the whims and woes of wholesalers, they are independent of seasons, and they don't compromise beauty. "Even if it's artificial, you want people to reach out to the flower and be surprised it's artificial," Betty says. Visit the shop and see what she means: the sample arrangements could fool a honeybee. Of course, you'll want to check out their fresh-floral arrangements, too. Gloria is a wellspring of expertise. Bring her a picture of a bouquet, and she can tell you everything you ever wanted to know about the aesthetics, seasonality, durability, cost, fragrance, and symbolism of the blooms.

The bridal shop at All Four Seasons offers decorative supplies and services, including linens, tables, swags, centerpieces, candelabra, Queen Anne chairs and loveseats, aisle runners---the works. Especially popular are their unique Roman arches available for rent. The arches are illuminated from within and look as though they've been carved from ivory and glass. Also available in matching, illuminated designs are columns, flower stands, and glass-top tables for the cake and for the bride and groom's seats-of-honor. These one-of-a-kind pieces were custom-made for All Four Seasons but are surprisingly affordable.

All Four Seasons"We often do extra things that make the wedding nicer for the couple and their guest," says Betty. "We know that among the guests there is usually someone who knows someone else who's getting married soon, so we really think of our work as our business card. We want people to be impressed and ask, 'Who did your decorating?'"

Some added niceties: All Four Seasons offers some standard packages but can customize to fit your needs. They don't subcontract. And you typically get them all to yourself on your big day. "We want to give our full attention to the couple," says Betty. "It's important for us not to over-commit, because we've got to answer to the customer. We want them to tell other brides that they've had a good experience."

Clearly, that's already happening. All Four Seasons has begun booking some weekends that are a year out. That's the outcome of thirty years of experience, elbow grease, and the bonds of family, directed toward a common passion. And to think that, in a way, it all started with tin cans and tissue paper.
