For Louis Benavides of FPS Portrait Studios, photographing a wedding is much more than just snapping shots of the couple's first dance, the cake cutting and the bouquet toss.
Capturing those qualities begins in their very first meeting with the couple. "Above all else, they must feel comfortable with us," says Benavides. "If they are confident in our abilities, then they can relax and enjoy their big day as it unfolds." And that confidence is easy to instill. Both Benavides and Bob Moreau, owners of FPS Portrait Studios, have photographed weddings for over 15 years and are certified professional photographers. Their photography style and skills continually evolve through both annual certification courses as well as through the more than 200 weddings they photograph each year. "Every person is photogenic, and every wedding is unique," says Benavides. "Our success lies not only in preserving wedding memories but in capturing the emotions that the wedding event inspires." Such emotions are evident on the walls of the FPS studio. In one picture, a young ring bearer stands by the hem of the bride's dress, looking longingly through the glass window at the outdoors. In another, the groom stands beside his best man, smiling through tears as his bride walks down the aisle. "We are constantly alert for photos that capture the feeling of the moment," Benavides says. "Those intangible moments become tangible memories through our photography." FPS offers a variety of packages and services, from
traditional wedding photography to the black and white photojournalistic
style popular today. However, purchasing a particular package does not
limit the number of photographs taken. For example, Benavides recently photographed a bride on location in Gruene, TX. "We went all over town," he says. "We shot in color and in black and white, in candid and in more formal poses. The bride really had a good time - which showed in her photos. She radiated beauty and happiness." Benavides laughs when asked about some of the more memorable requests from a couple. "The grooms always seem to have very specific - and often very funny - requests for pictures with their groomsmen. Since we approach our work with both humor and a touch of sarcasm, we welcome such requests - although I'm not sure that the bride always does," he says with a chuckle. Above all else, Benavides and Moreau work hard to ensure that the bride and groom will be happy with the wedding memories they provide, no matter the style or request. As Benavides says, "We capture the emotions of their wedding day on film."
