It may be the 21st century, but it doesnt feel like it when youre surrounded by 18 acres of live oaks and lush landscaping. The frenzied sounds of traffic are replaced by the soothing sounds of birds chirping and squirrels scampering. Peacocks skip across the parklike grounds, swans glide down a nearby stream. It could be 2002, or 1701. Los Patios is unique. There arent many places in a big city with this feeling of serenity, said Betsy Pollock, co-owner with Peter Susca, John McClung land Mary McClung of one of San Antonios most beloved and familiar landmarks. The natural setting is one of our biggest assets, said Pollock. Los Patios has flourished over the years, growing from a small garden center and landscape design firm in 1969 to a favorite shopping and dining mecca for locals and tourists alike. But is has never forgotten its roots. Hundreds of years ago, the secluded spot was a popular campsite for Native American tribes and pioneers. Settings for Romance or Revelry The stillness and serenity is why so many brides choose Los Patios as a perfect place for exchanging vows. Even in the heat of San Antonio summer, Los Patios cedars and moss-covered live oaks, verdant natural grasses, brilliant flowering plants, and the coolness of Salado Creek create an enchanted forest to delight any wedding guest. But Los Patios gifts of natural beauty arent the only reason that it has been the site of thousands of weddings. It is an ideal setting not only for the ceremony itself, but also for wedding receptions, bridal showers, bridesmaids luncheons, or any other related gathering. In the midst of this surprising oasis are the two buildingsthe Gazebo and the Haciendathat host weddings, receptions, and other parties. The Gazebo features a taste of Mexican elegance, with a patio entrance paved with stone and hung with ferns and leafy plants. The building houses four separate rooms: the Fireplace room, decorated in earth tones featuring a lovely fireplace; the Arbor Room, a cool, bright space with an arching ceiling and huge windows; the Laurel Roomwith its rustic furniture and raw brick floorthat opens onto a wood deck, and the spacious and beautiful Terrace Room.
Over 30 Years of Experience Pollock says that one of the main reasons so many people have celebrated their marriage at Los Patios is the meticulous personal service offered by the staff. Catering director Diana Flores, who has been at Los Patios for 27 years, and Aimee Herrera, her assistant, are in charge of orchestrating every event. This is no small feat, since Los Patios can host up to 1,500 guests. We make sure we take care of the details ahead of time, said Flores. We go from beginning to end and do our best to accommodate their every need. Brides also love the one-stop shopping experience Los Patios provides. Included in this is their Garden and Floral Center. We have a fabulous floral shop that can provide all the wedding arches and floral arrangements, said Pollock. Tim Weber, longtime manager of this famed garden and floral center, works with couples to oversee finishing touches. From the catering services to the garden center to its exquisite and incomparable natural beauty, Los Patios is in a class by itself. Its a great place to be married. Theres no other place like it, Pollock said. Its a true jewel.
