The Plaza San Antonio A Riverwalk Oasis

If you have dreamed of a Riverwalk wedding but prefer a more secluded setting, then step into the Plaza San Antonio, A Marriott Hotel. Plaza San AntonioPerched on six acres of rich vegetation, historical architecture, and opulent courtyards, the Plaza San Antonio is an unparalleled oasis of San Antonio culture and charm.

“We truly are a unique property,” says Shannon Hogan, wedding specialist for the Plaza San Antonio, a Marriott hotel. “We’re surrounded by the hustle and bustle of downtown and the Riverwalk, but we provide a calm and tranquil atmosphere that is as memorable as our location.”

Such a relaxing atmosphere may seem to be a direct result of the 252 elegantly decorated rooms available in the hotel, including two presidential suites and four executive suites. However, the rooms are only the beginning of the soothing ambiance that guests enjoy. A mere step into one of the Plaza’s lush courtyards overwhelms the senses with comfort. Magnificently colored Chinese pheasants and strutting peacocks roam among the brilliantly blooming hibiscus, bougainvillea, and other lush tropical plants, while a gleaming blue pool beckons with lounge chairs and the promise of leisurely sun-drenched dreams. Plaza San AntonioJust beyond the gardens rests a romantic white gazebo, surrounded by a manicured green lawn that exudes tranquility.

Indeed, the most difficult decision to be made at the Plaza San Antonio may be exactly where you want your ceremony and reception to take place. “One of our greatest assets is our diversity,” Shannon explains. “Essentially, a bride could have her after-rehearsal dinner, bridal luncheon, wedding ceremony, and reception with us, and never use the same setting twice.”

That diversity lies among the various venues available on the grounds of the Plaza. First and foremost, the Plaza’s Hidalgo Ballroom offers 6,000 square feet of refined elegance, complete with resplendent floral carpeting and luminescent lighting. It can be divided into two or three sections per a bride’s request. Just outside of the grand ballroom is a small tiled courtyard accentuated by a beautiful stone fountain, around which pre-reception cocktails can be enjoyed.

Nestled among the Plaza’s gardens are two 19th century cottages perfect for luncheons or small receptions. The Diaz House and Victoria’s House both share a stylish grace and sophistication that speaks of days gone by. Their classic décor is gently dazzling, with fireplaces adding to the overall romantic ambiance and timeless appeal.

Yet perhaps the most historic site on the Plaza San Antonio grounds is the German-English school buildings, known as the Conference Center. These two stone buildings, dating from 1859, have served both educational and cultural purposes, from headquarters of the 1968 World’s Fair to the site of the 1992 signing of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). Uniting these two historical structures is a fabulous paved courtyard, accented with a glorious stone fountain and studded with century-old oaks.

No matter their choice of venue, all brides are assured of unmatched service at the Plaza San Antonio. “We are here to do want a bride wants done,” Shannon says. “My job is to make planning her wedding with us an easy and pleasurable experience.”

While the Plaza offers various wedding packages from which to choose, brides are also welcome to customize a package to meet their needs. “We offer unlimited options,” Shannon explains. From the catering to the décor to the service style, we are here to please. We want all of our brides to feel like queens at their weddings.”

Steeped in history, opulence and award-winning service, the Plaza San Antonio is indeed a spectacular oasis befitting royalty. Its magic is sure to bless your wedding day with beauty, romance, and charm.
