Special orders are Wyrick's forte. Not only does he create exclusive designs for individual clients, he protects that exclusivity and won't produce duplicates without a customer's permission. Service stands behind that style. "We're geared as a service provider; we stand alone in that respect. That pushes us into the limelight," he states. Set to open as the Jeweler and the Watchmakker® this fall, Wyrick and his staff are comprised of Gemologists and some of the area's premier watchmakers. When you select an engagement or wedding ring, you're making a lifelong investment. The education process couples go through before purchasing rings can be confusing, and Wyrick says they often come to him with conflicting information. Wyrick is the only Master Bench Jeweler® in South Texas, tested and certified by Jewelers of America®. He was the fifteenth Jeweler in the nation to achieve this status. Wyrick encourages brides and grooms to shop together. "It's hard for one person to know his fiancée well enough to design a ring for her," he says. Because grooms often seem to be put aside when they truly deserve attention, Wyrick's developing a "grooms connection" where grooms can look at bands, gifts for groomsmen and the bride. Grooms' gifts often include a watch or money clip. When it comes to defining a budget, there's no magic formula, such as using a certain percentage of your salary, says Wyrick. "Your wishes and desires should be reflected in what you buy," he says. "It's important couples tell me their budget first, so I can create something affordable. I stay within that price range and offer possibilities, but the decision is ultimately theirs." Wyrick creates primarily 18 karat gold and platinum wedding rings. The price difference between 14 and 18 karat is small -- it's the same price to design and fabricate a finished piece. Regardless of materials, Wyrick devotes a great deal of time to creating his incomparable designs, and won't let rings go to the customer unless they're right. "I don't work on it once it's on the hand. I take pride in the precision of my designs, and they're made to last."
