Set along the wooded, winding roads of the beautiful Texas Hill Country, there's a wedding site that's like no other. The Vineyards Restaurant is becoming more and more popular with brides and grooms, and once you make the drive to this "off the beaten path" location about 10 miles north of San Antonio, you'll see why. Three years ago owner Bill Greer modeled The Vineyards after a European chalet, complete with active vineyard and rose garden-surrounded pavilion. Now his location hosts 20 to 30 weddings a year, with up to 300 guests in attendance. If an outdoor wedding is in your plans, The Vineyards can accommodate your event. Guests enter through a vine- and rose-covered arbor; the ceremony is framed by rustic arches and columns in the majestic pavilion centered in the vineyard. Beyond an elegant, one of a kind setting that impresses couples around the area, The Vineyards offers services other locations don't. "Thanks to our network of vendors, we can do it all -- food, drink, flowers, DJ, limo -- even fireworks to cap off the big event," explains Greer. Relationships with vendors Greer works with and trusts have helped him develop a truly worry-free approach to wedding planning, and something other locations don't provide. "Because we work regularly with one florist, that person knows what flowers look best in our location. The same is true of the DJ service we use. They're familiar with The Vineyards and can easily set up and create a great sound," Greer adds. After you've set a date, Greer and his staff will be ready to meet to discuss your budget. When it comes to pricing, The Vineyards uses menu prices as a guide. "The average per person price for food and drink is about $30," Greer says. The total cost of a large event is usually under $7,500, but prices vary based on whether the wedding is held during the week or on a weekend, during the day or at night. Most budgets can be accommodated. "If the minimum price has not been met after food and drinks have been budgeted, we'll book things like floral and DJ services and apply those to your budget," Greer says of the "one-stop shopping" experience he provides for prospective brides and grooms. Greer encourages couples to come right before an event to see how a wedding is usually set up at The Vineyards. But the best way to get a sneak peak at a Vineyards wedding is via their website, www.thevineyards.org. The site is always current because it's constantly updated with photos of weddings that have just happened. "I tell most couples to check out the website before we meet, because they can get 50 percent of all their questions answered there." The Vineyards is ready to take on the role of wedding coordinator, and the result is sure to please. Superior service and a spectacular, secluded location make The Vineyards an ideal destination for weddings . . . and a spot that's sure to put its special signature on many south Texas weddings in years to come.
