Wonderous Wireless Wedding: Making Sound Waves

Days before I got married, my best friend fell sick and was unable to fly to my wedding. During the ceremony, her sister sat near the aisle, holding up a cell phone and hoping my friend on the other end would hear me say, "I do." Instead, only my husband and minister did. What, with worrying about extra bobby pins, the heirloom kerchief for my bouquet, and infinite other details, was I also supposed to remember to project?Wonderous Wireless I should have worn a wireless microphone to amplify my voice.

This is no Star Trek fantasy. It's a real option available through Public Address Communication System as part of its Wonderous Wireless Wedding service-an audio service that attends to the sounds of your ceremony just as a photographer attends to the sights. Owner Miguel Basaldua says it's the county's most diversified wedding audio service.

Basaldua has twenty years experience in sound electronics. His business has provided audio for commercial television, outdoor sound reinforcement for concerts, and interfaced radio equipment with PA systems for the U.S. Air Force's Thunderbirds, allowing audiences to hear pilot conversations during air shows.

The Wonderous Wireless Wedding service is actually a slew of components combinable into various packages. The Basic Package ($390) includes wireless microphones and their receivers. Don't picture garish apparatus: The bride's transmitter is white, the size of a deck of cards, and discreetly worn around her leg. The groom and minister are also equipped, and a handheld wireless microphone made available for parents. Each microphone feeds a receiver that feeds a mixing consul, ensuring that no single voice overpowers another. The sound is enhanced for best quality.

The Distributive Audio Service ($390) is a component that surrounds you with enhanced sound. An amplifier network feeds sound to twelve perimeter-lining speakers set on ear-level tripods. Each speaker is smaller than a toaster, and the tripods are easily camouflaged under greenery.

The Music Engineering Service (starting at $50) provides a virtual recording studio. Perhaps at your wedding you want to recite poetry, make a speech, or even sing. Many clients play their recordings for awaiting guests before the ceremony.

Other options include assistive listening systems for hearing-impaired guests, audio feed for videographers, customized music-anything related to sound.

If you're marrying outdoors, maybe you'd like a pre-recorded wedding march, recessional, and bell chimes as your ceremony closes. Perhaps you want background music played softly throughout your vows. You can even have sound wired into your dressing room as you await your grand appearance. Wonderous Wireless Weddings offers it all, and for great prices.

"In our experience we've come across many different-sized budgets," says Basaladua, who even offers a bartering option-your goods or services in trade for his. Why? Because he firmly believes every couple should get their dream wedding. "Regardless of their financial situation, no one wants to skimp," he explains. "I've lived all over San Antonio. Wherever you're from, you want a nice wedding. It's important to me to help people have that."
