Stephanie Martinez & Erik Oyarzabal
Hometowns: San Antonio
How did you meet? We met in biology class our freshman year at Antonian High School. After having multiple classes together and growing a friendship, Erik asked me to attend the homecoming dance senior year.
Tell us about the proposal. It was a rainy, early Sunday morning when we made our way up Enchanted Rock where, at the top, Erik popped the question. Erik planned a surprise engagement party later that evening with our families to help celebrate the precious moment.
What inspired the design or theme of your wedding day? I wanted a fairy tale wedding, a once in a lifetime event to celebrated marrying my high school sweetheart.
Why did you choose the venue and vendors you did? We chose McNay Art Museum based on its interactive venue—we liked how guests would be able to view the art gallery during cocktail hour.
What were some of the unique elements of your wedding? One was the garter toss—Erik decided he wanted a mosh pit, so after he threw the garter, one of his favorite metal songs came on and the boys started to mosh.
Did anything about your wedding exceed your expectations? It was amazing to see everything that was planned come together in one room at the same time for the first time.
What advice do you have for couples planning a San Antonio wedding? Don't be scared to say no until you find something you absolutely love. Be patient, the right thing will come to you in time.
