If you are looking for a go-to beauty gal to book for your wedding, then Alyssa Nelson is the one! The owner of Blush and The Bride is a triple threat— she’s a hair stylist, a makeup artist and a color specialist.
Essentially, you can book Alyssa prior to your wedding to have your bridal hair and makeup trials done, and then to have your hair colored or highlighted right before your big day and then you can snag her for your wedding day to do you and your bridesmaids’ hair and makeup. Alyssa does it all!
She highly recommends doing a hair trial prior to your wedding, so your stylist can become more familiar with your hair and how it reacts to being styled the way you envision it. This trial is also a good time for a bride to see what she will look like before her big day, allowing her the opportunity to request any changes to her hairstyle.
On top of styling hair for events, Alyssa can also color hair, do balayage, cuts, extensions and more. Wondering when you should schedule to have your hair colored before your wedding? Alyssa suggests to new clients to schedule three weeks before the wedding, and the week before for returning clients.
While prepping your hair and skin in advance for your special day, Alyssa has a few tips that can go far. For your hair, doing a deep conditioning treatment or having a Brazilian blowout done can help make it easier to style for your wedding. For your skin, Alyssa stressed the importance of taking care of your lips. To keep them smooth and moisturized, a lip scrub is a great regimen. You can even make one right at home! All you have to do is combine one teaspoon of honey with two teaspoons of sugar, massage it onto your lips, leave it on for about 10 minutes and then rinse it off. Your lips will instantly feel smoother!
As for what’s trending in bridal hair, Alyssa said that low, sleek buns or “chignons” and a side braid connecting to a messy, tousled bun are currently all the rave. She foresees ponytails being the next bridal hair trend. “Ponytails are super elegant and easy, but beautiful,” Alyssa added.
Trending in bridal makeup are smoky eye, false lashes and winged eyeliner. Don’t let those false lashes intimidate you. Alyssa said that applying them in clusters rather than a full strip can make them feel more natural. After your lashes have served their purpose and are ready to come off, Alyssa suggests rubbing lotion or coconut oil over where your lashes connect to your eyelid for easy removal.
There is no doubt that Alyssa is exceptional at her many trades, and her insightful tips and tricks to try before your wedding will surely benefit you!
