It was only natural for Erica and Jason to host a Harry Potter-themed wedding. The couple’s shared interests in books, video games and all things geek was what brought them together. And, while neither Erica nor Jason had a magic wand, they did have another way of conjuring up some wedding magic: Keri Weber, the Event Assistant, who was ready to create a wedding nothing short of magical.
“When I first met with Erica and Jason the first time, I already knew they were doing a Harry Potter wedding because I received a text from their photographer, who was also very excited about it,” says Keri. “I told them I would love the opportunity to work with them and would enjoy the challenge. We talked about their ideas and how elaborate they wanted to go, and then we built from there.”
For Erica and Jason, the goal was to transport their guests to the fun-filled world of Harry Potter without breaking the bank. For Keri, a seasoned wedding professional, it was important that they carefully balance the theme with the elegant and intimate atmosphere of a wedding. They came up with a plan that called for a careful reception layout, scrutinizing attention to detail and intricate DIY projects. Not long after, The Event Assistant Team rolled up their sleeves, grabbed their hot glue guns and got to work.
“We spent somewhere between 25 to 30 hours crafting for this wedding,” says Keri. “I’m not kidding when I say it took blood, sweat and tears, and not to mention hot glue gun burns!”
Together, Keri, Erica and Jason transformed Pat O’Briens Grand Promenade into the Hogwarts Great Hall. Twinkling candles floated in the air. Table runners, made from pages of Harry Potter books, ran the length of each of the long tables. A handmade magic wand waited at each place setting with a tag from Ollivander’s, placed at random to help the wand choose the wizard. Each table hosted its own mini-theme to give guests a tour through the world of Hogwarts, from the bonsai trees of the Herbology table to the goals on the Quidditch table.
Keri’s favorite part of the décor were the floating candles, suspended by invisible fishing wire and made from a combination of paper towel rolls, hot glue and tea lights. Since the lights were battery operated, Keri and her team had to wait to the very last minute to install the display, and finished just as Erica and Jason arrived for their sneak peak.
“From the look on their faces, I could tell they thought it was absolutely perfect,” says Keri.
But the best part of this wedding, according to Keri, was working alongside Erica and Jason.
“They thought of a theme that they both loved, and they were always on the same page about it,” says Keri. “For our Event Assistant team, the most important thing to us is creating an event for our client that we can all be proud of, and we could not thank Erica and Jason enough for believing in us, and some of our crazy ideas!”
