Sarah and Manuel met by chance at a concert and struck up a conversation. By the end of the night, they had talked for hours and forgot they were even there for a show. When it was time to go, Manuel asked for Sarah’s number, and the rest is history. On their fourth anniversary, when Manuel surprised Sarah with a proposal and a dinner for all their family and friends catered by Spice of Life at the Veranda.
Sarah and Manuel designed their wedding as a tribute to Sarah’s late father, Jim Love Ford III, who volunteered as a Shriner Clown known as Curly. Jim devoted his time to helping and strengthening the community, and took Sarah to the Alzafar Shriner Circus every year.
“We knew we had to do something to make sure that Jim was a big part of our wedding,” says Manuel. “We came up with the idea of a carnival-inspired wedding with a vintage twist.”
Sarah and Manuel’s wedding included everything from carnival games, cotton candy, a circus tent photo booth and an exit on an antique San Antonio Trolley. The couple handmade their centerpieces; vintage glasses pieces filled with succulents Sarah grew and reproduced from plants she’d acquired from her father before he passed.
“Make sure that the wedding is solely about you and your significant other,” says Manuel. “At the end of the day, the most important part will be that you know everything was done perfect for the two of you and you would not change it for the world.”
