As a wedding magazine, we have heard and seen an array of proposals—both traditional and not. Every couple’s proposal is different and we love hearing about them all! When we heard of a rather unique, recent proposal that Elliott Hamilton captured on camera, we couldn’t wait to share the details!
Toward the end of 2018, Elliott was contacted by a concierge representative at La Cantera, giving him a man named Phillip’s contact information after La Cantera learned that Phillip wanted to propose to his girlfriend, Jenny, on their premises. When Elliott contacted Phillip, he was delighted by Phillip’s enthusiasm to propose in the non-traditional way that he was planning.
“Jenny is not a fan of surprises and always wants to know, so it was kind of difficult to keep it a secret for the couple months of planning,” said Phillip. “Even getting in touch with Elliott to discuss things was a bit of a challenge; I had to make sure she wasn’t around me. I really just wanted to do something special and memorable, and totally surprising. So since we were there for New Year’s and we got the New Year’s Eve package, I told her the pictures were included in the package in order to prevent her from asking questions or raising any concerns—she bought it. I told her it would be good to have someone else take our pictures instead of one of us trying to do it and spending 10 minutes trying to find the perfect picture.”
His plan went just as he had imagined! Phillip took Jenny to La Cantera during the late afternoon on New Year’s Eve 2018. When the two walked to the area where in-cognito Elliott was waiting, camera in hand, Phillip proceeded to tell Jenny that the hotel was taking photos of people for free. She thought nothing out of the ordinary of it and so they had their photo taken. Right after, Elliott walked away as if he were going to go take someone else’s photo. In that moment, Phillip got down on one knee, Elliott quickly turned back around and captured Phillip’s proposal to Jenny.
“Our proposal was a huge surprise and shock to me,” said Jenny. “It wasn’t unlike Phillip to plan a little getaway for a holiday, so it didn’t cross my mind at the time. Elliott did a great job with keeping the secret and was able to play it off without giving away any hints.”
Phillip said that the surprise proposal turned out even better than he had expected. He gives thanks to Elliott and Joan, with the concierge at La Cantera, for this. Phillip was beyond happy that his now soon-to-be wife was so surprised!
“There is nothing quite like photographing a proposal, especially when it’s of a fun couple like Phillip and Jenny,” said Elliott.
