Finding a wedding planner you trust with your vision can be the most nerve-wracking part of planning. That’s why San Antonio Weddings is introducing you to the best planners of San Antonio and helping you find your perfect match.
Planner Vicki Thayer, owner and founder of Joyous 442, specializes in making events feel special and individualized. A former marketing professional, she spent 10 years writing multi-million dollar construction service proposals, where she learned to keep a keen eye on deadlines and details. But it wasn’t until after her own wedding – and the passing of her father – that Vicki decided to jump into the wedding industry.
“My father worked his entire life as a construction superintendent and, although he was great at it, he didn’t enjoy his life until he started taking flying lessons and bought himself a little 1969 Cessna airplane,” says Vicki. “After his passing, I knew I wanted to make him proud by doing something with my life that really fulfilled me. Several close friends and family members started getting engaged and asked me to help them out with their planning since I had recently gone through the process. I got so much joy out of taking the stress away for them! I named my business Joyous 442 in remembrance of the spirit of my dad. The ending tail numbers of his little Cessna were 442.”
Vicki prides herself on her ability to take pieces of a client’s vision, be it a single photo or a Pinterest board, and design something unique, cohesive and tasteful. Joyous 442 offers several in-house services, including design and printing of paper goods, custom signage and décor rentals, all aimed at simplifying planning for their clients and helping them give their wedding a cohesive look.
“My client’s best interests are my interests and I will do anything in my power to make the planning process easier for them,” says Vicki. “I end up friends with almost every one of my clients and on their wedding day, I feel like it’s a family member getting married. I pride myself on building relationships of trust with my clients and vendor partners, keeping my cool and problem solving when necessary.”
‘Perspective’ is especially important to Vicki, who makes sure the focus of the wedding stays on the love of the couple.
“I’m definitely all for a great party, but the wedding ceremony is why we’re really there,” says Vicki. “When the weather isn’t cooperating, or the best man got a flat tire, I love a bride that doesn’t let those things ruin her day and can go ahead and enjoy the celebration.”
If weddings planned by Joyous 442 have a signature, it’s the details. From the custom-designed invitations to careful place settings, Vicki makes sure each detail is inspired by the couple’s relationship and works together to make a wedding that’s all their own.
“We are big on the little details that make an event special, so if the bride gets as excited about those things as I do, we’re a perfect match,” says Vicki. “I love how every wedding is so different and I get a new challenge every day.”
For Vicki, wedding planning is far more than a job – it’s an honor.
“I feel completely honored anytime someone hires me because they are trusting me with one of the most important days of their lives,” says Vicki. “It’s a really big deal and I feel a lot of responsibility for that!”
