With her upbeat and hardworking personality, it is no wonder that Mary Coop, owner of A Very Good Hair Day, has repeat clients years after styling them for their weddings.
“I am a self-taught artist,” said Mary. “I have done hair and makeup since my early teenage years. I was the one who stayed home from prom, so I could do all my friends’ hair and makeup, and I liked it that way!”
In 2009, Mary launched her business with a focus on offering strictly on-location services. “Here I am nine years later with a family of six and the freedom to travel anywhere I wish, helping brides look and feel their best on their big day!” she exclaimed.
Mary is the primary stylist at A Very Good Hair Day, providing hair and makeup for any event or photo session. When needed, she will hire trusted stylists to help her take care of larger wedding parties.
If you are in search of a wedding hairstylist/makeup artist that knows the importance of client satisfaction, then Mary is your girl. “I have always believed that listening to the client and getting to know their personal style and preferences turns a good artist into a great artist,” she said.
On the big day, Mary is all about catering to the desire of how the bride envisions herself to look. Whether those dream details include flawless fake eyelashes, bold red lips, spiraling curls of hair or all three, Mary’s mission is to capture the look and hit it out of the park.
“I really love watching people realize they can look like the model in the picture they hand me from Pinterest or Instagram,” she told. “I love seeing the transformation and the look on my bride’s face when she sees her vision for her look come to life. It is the reason I do what I do.”
Mary’s favorite moment of every wedding is probably one of the bride’s favorites as well. She adores revealing to the bride how she looks after she’s applied the finishing touches to the bride’s hair and makeup. Mary recollected moments of she and her past brides crying joyful tears together over the bride’s expression of ecstatic approval.
When asked to lend some advice to our brides when choosing a wedding-day hairstyle, Mary responded with “Choose something that you can look back on and be glad you stayed true to yourself—not necessarily a trend.”
As for wedding-day makeup advice, Mary has a great piece of encouragement. “Go big,” she persuaded. “Anything you feel may look like a lot compared to your every day look will probably photograph extremely normal.”
Mary’s motto of aiming to please her clients is applied to her business as a whole. What she values most for her clients is gaining their trust. “I want them to know they made the best choice by hiring us,” she explained. “I want to be one less thing they feel they need to stress over.”
