Angelica Rodriguez & Bryan Thomas McCoy
Hometowns: San Antonio & St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands
How did you meet? We first saw each other at a Walk For Wishes 5K Run and then a few times at Crossfit but didn’t officially meet until we ran into each other on Jost Van Dyke, British Virgin Islands for her sister’s and my mother’s birthday parties.
Tell us about the proposal. It was a carefully planned family dinner trip back to Jost Van Dyke, BVI. I took her for a walk down a small path leading to a bench on a private beach.
What inspired the design of your wedding day? Bringing our two worlds together. She grew up on a farm near a big city and I grew up on an island and was raised on a boat.
How did you choose your venue and vendors? The Jack Guenther Pavilion was the perfect mix of city, being downtown San Antonio, and the riverwalk being our “sea.” The venue gave us a list of approved vendors and we selected the best fit for us, in order to accomplish our theme. Rosemary’s Catering was one of the few vendors that was willing to accept our farm-raised beef, which was being donated by Angelica's parents.
What was the most trying part of the planning process? We were planning 2,245 miles away from the decision making—it was hard to visualize a lot of the details.
What were some of the most unique elements of your wedding? Bryan and his groomsmen wore superhero shirts, and Angelica wore Wonder Woman shoes (her groom didn’t know about the shoes). Angelica's parents donated the meat for the wedding, raised from the farm she grew up on. The overall theme of the wedding, bringing both of our worlds together. Also, the distance traveled by our family, friends, and guests to attend this special day.
Did anything about your wedding exceed your expectations? Desana Turner with Couture Conceptz. She is an amazing planner and went above and beyond our expectations. We would recommend her in a heartbeat to anyone who is planning a wedding.
What are your favorite memories from the day? Simply having our friends and family from all over the world being there to celebrate with us. For me, seeing my bride walk down the aisle and all of those hidden details about her dress, shoes, and makeup all finally revealed.
What are your plans for the future? Just enjoy the journey with each other and see where the current takes us.
What advice do you have for couples planning a San Antonio wedding? Embrace the culture and experiences of what San Antonio has to offer. We were able to spend a couple of days with family and friends taking it all in before the big day.
