Stephanie Miller & Jewell Allen
Hometowns: San Antonio, TX & Memphis, TN
How did you meet? Jewell and I met at a night club in Korea during August 2013. We were instantly drawn to each other and danced the night away.
Tell us about the proposal. Jewell proposed in the San Antonio airport. Jewell was flying in from California (where he lives) and told me that he needed me to come in and help him with his bags. When I got there, I saw my friends Jasmin and Tanja who were standing there with balloons and flowers. I turned around with shock and surprise. Jewell got on one knee and asked me to marry him. Best surprise of my life and it was the day before my birthday.
What inspired the design or theme of your wedding day? My theme was Garden of Eden, because I wanted a heaven on earth feel. In order to accomplish this dream of mine, I knew I had to get married at the botanical gardens. San Antonio Botanical Garden is so earthly and beautiful!
Why did you choose the venue and vendors you did? San Antonio Botanical Garden has a preferred list of vendors. I just went down the list of options and read the reviews on each one. After I had narrowed the list down, I went and visited with the vendors. When it came to choosing the caterer, Holly at Anne Marie's Catering went above and beyond for me. She met all my needs, including setting up the rentals. I chose Pamela based off her awesome spirit! She was a tremendous help and I was truly blessed to have her as my wedding planner.
What were some of the most unique elements of your wedding? The most unique element was that I had twin flower girls. My guests were also able to explore the entire botanical gardens. Even though my wedding was in the conservatory and Wisteria Garden, my setup was spread out so that they had to walk through whole garden in order to get to the food, bar, tables and dance floor.
Did anything about your wedding exceed your expectations? The best part about my wedding was the fact that my husband’s family was able to make itg. They originally weren't coming and surprised us the night before the wedding! As far as the wedding day, everything exceeded my expectations but I would have to say the garden lit up so beautifully at night with the DJ's up lighting and the background lighting of the garden!
What advice do you have for couples planning a San Antonio wedding? I would tell future couples to follow their hearts and plan their wedding how they want. It's their day so do it with no regrets, regardless of other people input. A lot of people were asking me why I would have a wedding outside in July (the hottest month) but I wanted an outdoor wedding. Although it was hot on that day, everything turned out amazing and better than I ever expected, Jewell and I couldn't be happier!
