Alyson Nooner & Zachary Bohmfalk
How did you meet? We are both from Hondo, however, we are three grade levels apart. In February 2012, we happened to be at the same party in College Station and hit it off from there.
Tell us about the proposal. In June 2015, we decided to take a vacation to Cancun. Zach had planned on waiting a couple of days before proposing but he could not wait and asked me to be his wife on the first night. We were walking down the beach around sunset and Zach stuck our GoPro in the sand for some pictures. As I was posing, I turned around and Zach was on a knee. We have the entire proposal on video!
What inspired the design or theme of your wedding day? I have always wanted to have a big and glamorous wedding, then we found the perfect color scheme while browsing pictures on Pinterest.
How did you choose your venue and vendors? My mom was the biggest help with planning my wedding. She did absolutely everything! She would find vendors on her own and then give me the option of picking my favorites. Our wedding day would have not been as perfect as it was without all of her help.
What was the most trying part of the planning process? Deciding on the small details was very trying. It was exciting to design our invitations and pick out linens but there is a lot of detail when planning a wedding.
What were some of the most unique elements of your wedding? My mom and I were really big on floral. We love the look and smell of floral décor and Erin from Eden’s Echo made everything come together. Her arrangements were absolutely perfect!! From the cascading flowers on our cake to every table design, especially our exquisite head table!!
Did anything about your wedding exceed your expectations? Gretchen Niehaus from the Hyatt Hill Country Resort went above and beyond to help plan our wedding day. My father was diagnosed with Intrahepatic Cholangiocarcinoma in January. His prognosis was poor and we did not know if we would need to change our wedding date. Fortunately, we were able to keep the original date and my father was there to walk me down the aisle. He passed away the following week. Gretchen made sure to provide a room for him close to the elevator and accommodate us in any way she could. He was not allowed to have salt so she made sure his meals were prepared accordingly without making him feel out of place. It was the best day of my dad’s life, and Gretchen had a lot to do with his joy and comfort.
What are your favorite memories from the day? Our first look at each other when I walked down the aisle is one of our favorite memories. Neither of us could have been happier and it was a very intimate moment. The father-daughter dance and mother-son dance were also very special to us both.
What are your plans for the future? Zach will be graduating from Fiek School of Pharmacy at Incarnate Word in May 2017 and I will graduate from Ila Faye Miller School of Nursing at Incarnate Word in December 2016. We both plan to work in San Antonio for a few years as a pharmacist and nurse before moving back to Hondo.
What advice do you have for couples planning a San Antonio wedding? Don’t make hasty decisions or let others' opinions sway your desires. If you know what you want, then stick to that. Do not worry about what other people think because it is your day! On the day of the wedding, take a moment to soak everything in. Do not get frustrated if something goes wrong because there is always something! Instead, have fun with your guests and enjoy the night because it is all for you!
