Emily McAnsh and Ian Lemmon
How did you meet? I moved down from Michigan after I graduated from college in 2016. I never had a boyfriend before and I just had this feeling that I was meant to move to Texas. I said a little prayer as I drove away from home and, a week after I moved, I met Ian. We fell in love very quickly. It was a feeling like no other that is so hard to describe unless you feel it. And we have it. Scariest decision I have ever made - moving away from everything I knew (2,000 miles) to Texas but because I took that leap, trusted God, and I found my best friend, lover, dreamer, and now husband that I get to spend the adventure of life with. What a dream that has come true!
Tell us about the proposal: I have forever wanted to go to Venice and ride on a gondola. Ian brought Venice to me. He proposed to me on a gondola ride in Dallas. He had the gondola captain drop a message in a bottle that Ian had written. There was romantic music playing, a gorgeous sunset, and there was the bottle. I picked it up out of the water and took the note out...and he looked at me and he had the most incredible ring pinched between his fingers. He did good!
What inspired the design or theme of your wedding day? Intimate, all about family, candid, silly, and fun. We had an unique situation. Most of my family is in Michigan. His family are on the east coast and southern California. So no matter what we did, someone was going to have to travel a long way. After much discussion, we decided to have a mini wedding with just our family and brothers. The day was relaxed and we can remember every moment. As far as design; I have always wanted peonies and my second favorite flower is orchids. We did trendy colors with blush pink and blue. But we wanted the focus to be on the beauty of San Antonio as our back drop.
Why did you choose the venue and vendors you did? I did a lot of research! A lot. Thankfully I have a lot of event planning experience. Once we found the right vendors, we knew it. We originally wanted to take pictures at Mission San Jose because we love history, but the first time we saw and went to the Pearl, all changed. It was perfect for us. We loved the architecture and city modern industry look. We walked around and just could picture the best places to take amazing pictures that would be completely different from a traditional wedding pictures...and we were right!
What were some of the most unique elements of your wedding? Instead of a unity candle or the new sand mixing, we signed a Bible that was given to me by my late Grandma on my adoption day. She asked that I incorporate it in my wedding day somehow. So in our commitment to not only each other but God, we signed our names on 1 Corinthians 13:4-13.
Did anything about your wedding exceed your expectations? Truly everything. Monica did beyond incredible pictures, the flowers turned out like I have always dreamed, my hair and make up, my dress and suit being perfect together. But beyond all of that, it was this feeling of joy between both of us and love between our families coming together. That alone was the best part of the day and a feeling I will never forget.
What advice do you have for couples planning a San Antonio wedding? Easy! Think outside of the box. Ian and I love traditional classic things, but take that and all traditional things that are in a wedding make it your own. Find your own uniqueness in the great city of San Antonio. Do something different. Do what has not been done before because San Antonio is the city to do it in!
