Traci Soto & Victor Romero Jr
How did you meet? We met through friends when Vic was visiting his family in Texas while he was working as a computer programmer at the Wal-Mart headquarters in Bentonville, Arkansas. He wasn't happy living so far away from his family and once we met it gave him more incentive to move to San Antonio a year later.
Tell us about the proposal: Although Vic and I had discussed getting married, I did ask that he still plan a romantic proposal. He told me to wear something nice and that he would pick me up for dinner from my home but he didn’t tell where we were going. We drove to a vineyard with a restaurant in the Hill Country and had dinner outside as the sun was setting. We started to leave the restaurant and he asked me to wait because he needed to get something from the car. He came back with a large box containing a photo album filled with pictures from our fun times together, some of which I hadn’t seen in years since they had been taken on his camera phone and hadn’t been printed until right before the proposal. He told me he loved me and wanted us to be married. He was so nervous that he forgot to actually ask me to marry him! I whispered to him that he had to ask me *that* question so he did. Of course I accepted and he presented me with a gorgeous custom rose gold vintage style engagement ring that he let me design.
What inspired the design or theme of your wedding day? We had a short engagement of less than four months because I didn’t want to wait any longer after dating 10 years! I didn’t want to do anything too trendy such as rustic chic since I feel a wedding day is so significant that it should be more formal and elegant. I wanted to be able to look at our photos and not have them look terribly dated. I have an appreciation vintage styles, so that is why we chose the beautiful and historic St. Anthony Hotel, along with a classic Rolls Royce and reception music by the Frank Sinatra of South Texas, Joe Caruso.
Why did you choose the venue and vendors you did? Vic and I had visited the St Anthony a few times since its recent renovation. We had been there for brunch and dinner to celebrate anniversaries. We just have such good memories of that gorgeous hotel and especially love the white tea signature scent in the lobby. Many of our guests were from out of town and we thought downtown would be a great location and would allow us to conveniently use Lollypop Carriage for a ride after the reception. Vic and I both agreed that we wanted a classy and elegant reception so that is why we chose Joe Caruso instead of a DJ. I first learned of him from several mentions in an issue of San Antonio Weddings Magazine.
Did anything about your wedding exceed your expectations? Although I was stressed about planning the wedding since it was a short engagement and I had not hired a wedding planner (but did have a day of coordinator at the St Anthony, Sara Wilson, a real life saver!), I was amazed to see all my planning come together so beautifully that day. Even though every bride feels that her wedding was the best, I truly feel that I may not attend another wedding as beautiful and elegant as mine.
What advice do you have for couples planning a San Antonio wedding? Create a budget and try to stick with it since spending can easily get out of hand very quickly. Choose vendors based on online reviews, recommendations and they should make you feel special. Hire a videographer because now we wish we had to capture special moments. Lastly, don’t expect the day to go smoothly and perfectly because inevitably something, no matter how minor, will go wrong and you don’t want it to ruin your mood and day. What is important is that it is the first day as a married couple for the rest of your lives.
