Chelsey Nicole Cliett & Kyle Benjamin Goswick
Hometowns: Kerrville & College Station
How did you meet? Kyle and I met at our mutual friend’s wedding. He was the groomsman I was paired up with to walk down the aisle.
Tell us about the proposal. Christmas is my favorite holiday, so Kyle took me on an all-day Christmas date. We went to SeaWorld for the Christmas Celebration and then to Paesano’s on the Riverwalk. After dinner, we walked for a bit until we found ourselves by the huge Christmas tree in front of the San Fernando Cathedral. It was in front of that Christmas tree that Kyle got down on one knee and proposed.
What inspired the design of your wedding? I saw a gorgeous photo on Pinterest of a table with a huge, gold candelabra as the centerpiece. Thanks to that photo, I was adamant about having a gold candelabra. I then decided on eggplant and champagne for our colors and it all fell into place after that with the help of Nicolette.
How did you choose your venue and vendors? I attended the Bridal Extravaganza event where I met Nicolette [with Chic Concepts], who told me all about the Scottish Rite Theatre. As soon as I toured the venue, I knew it was perfect for our reception. The fact that a Presbyterian church was right across the street was a bonus. As far as the vendors, mostly I met with either them or a representative of the company at the Bridal Extravaganza. Our videographer actually got ahold of my email somehow and emailed me all the information. For the photography, I met Derek from Moments & Milestones at the Sunset Station open house. Kyle’s parents are close friends with Lorrie Ortega, who helped plan our honeymoon cruise, and it was through her that Kyle and I were introduced to her friend, Alex Avila, the DJ for our wedding.
What was the most trying part of the planning process? Not forgetting about “real life.” It was a challenge to manage our work schedules so that we could meet and have enough time together to relax, take in the venues, the vendors we considered, and coordinate with all involved throughout the wedding planning process.
What were some of the most unique elements of your wedding? On our invitations, we remembered our loved ones no longer with us. We also had what we called a “heritage table” at the reception with their pictures prominently displayed. During the reception, our DJ played the Aggie Warhymn. As favors for our guests, my parents roasted a bunch of their coffee (they own a coffee shop in Comfort) and we gave that with a label that read “The perfect blend.” Instead of bubbles or rice, our guests tossed lavender for the send off.
Did anything about your wedding exceed your expectations? The entire evening exceeded our expectations. Nicolette and her team did a PHENOMENAL job!! Nicolette was so amazing to work with and she knew exactly how I wanted the entire evening to look and flow. I could not have asked for a better coordinator. Also, True Flavors Catering did a great job with the food! In all honesty, we were very blessed to have the vendors we did. Everyone went above and beyond to make this a special day for us, and Kyle and I could not be more thankful for the hard work everyone did.
What are your favorite memories from the day? Getting to marry the man I love. Plain and simple. Kyle and I are very fortunate to have so many close family and friends who were there to share with us as we took that next step in our relationship.
What are your plans for the future? Kyle has another year before he graduates from UTSA with a master’s in social work. He is working towards a career in family therapy. I am trying to get my career started in Event Marketing. Kyle and I are saving up for a house and, then, who knows?
What advice do you have for couples planning a San Antonio wedding? Definitely attend the Bridal Extravaganza! Just so you know all your options because there are a lot! Most importantly, though, always go with your gut when it comes to making decisions about your wedding day.
