Erin Ussery & Jonathan McMurrich
What inspired the design or theme of your wedding day? The Hill Country inspired the design and theme! I fell in love with how absolutely beautiful the land is, how laid back the people are, and how quaint and romantic the Texas Hill Country is when I was in college.
Why did you choose the venue and vendors you did: We chose the city of Comfort because my mom and I used to take trips down every summer for a long weekend for some shopping, rest, and wine (of course). We chose Camp Comfort because it is they epitome of country comfort, it’s romantic, quaint, the trees and creek are breathtaking, and the owners (Phil and Lisa) are absolute gems. Lisa recommended Brandi Hines as our wedding planner, which had to have been one of the best decisions. Brandi did all of the decorations herself, she made the bouquets, and recommended all the other vendors: True Flavors for food, Kevin McCormick for guitar playing during the ceremony, and 5150 Productions for the DJ, and Jackie Willome for photography (tied for absolute best decision). We put a lot of trust in Brandi, and she by far exceeded expectations.
What were some of the most unique elements of your wedding? One of my favorite moments was standing with Jonathan on an antique quilt I found at one of the antique stores in Comfort with the creek, Cyprus trees, and field behind us. We didn’t have an altar, or flowers, or any decorations really besides a small table with two bottles of wine- one American and one Canadian. To symbolize our unity we each poured from a bottle of wine- I poured from the Texas wine (as I was born and raised in Texas), and Jonathan poured from the Canadian bottle (as he is from Canada)- into a decanter. We then swirled the decanter and poured ourselves each a glass of the mix, then had a sip of our new mixed wine!
Did anything about your wedding exceed your expectations? It’s hard to pinpoint specific things that exceeded our expectations. Absolutely everything was far more magical than I ever dreamed it would be. Brandi by far exceeded our expectations. She turned an open gravel area and a social hall into a fairy tale wedding with so much character. I shockingly had no idea what to expect for the bouquets or my head piece, and Brandi made both- easily the most beautiful bouquets I have seen. My mother and I didn’t have to think or lift a finger the day of the wedding, Brandi had everything covered. She has such a calming energy, she can even fix fake eyelashes! Jackie also by far exceeded our expectations. I knew she was a wonderful photographer- she captured the magic of the day and our photos are breathtaking. But she was far more than a photographer, she felt like a friend. She is hilarious and kept me calm, helped walk me through certain moments, and made sure I had a drink (very important!). The food by True Flavors was out of the this world, and the cake from Cakes & More was the best Italian cream cake I’ve had to date. The owners of Camp Comfort, Phil and Lisa, were so kind the entire weekend. Phil took guests for tours around Comfort, they are both absolutely lovely.
Choose a spot that represents who you are and matches your personality—don’t stress on the decorations for outdoor weddings, as the Texas Hill Country is already beautiful enough! The most important advice is to be sure to be present for each moment and each decision, this time flies by and before you know it your wedding day is over- so live in the moment! Always remember to GO WITH THE FLOW, the imperfections bring character and laughter to the day, and the only person that will know that something is going perfect, is you. It was already be perfect in everyone else’s eyes!
