Valarie Gomez Prough & Christopher Prough
How did you meet? Chris and I met through an online dating app and after a few days decided to meet face-to-face. We grabbed drinks, sparks flew, and we scheduled our first real date. We were engaged four months later!
Tell us about the proposal. We were in Seattle for a work/play trip during which my birthday happened to fall. After my birthday dinner, we walked back to our hotel where Chris got down on one knee for the sweetest, most genuine proposal ever.
What inspired the design or theme of your wedding day? We just wanted a fun, welcoming environment for our guests. We chose a simple garden theme to accent the beautiful grounds of our ceremony and reception venue Canyon Springs Golf Club.
Why did you choose the venue and vendors you did? Chris actually chose our venue when he noticed I was having trouble committing to a site. There are so many beautiful options in San Antonio, but Canyon Springs offered the exciting wedding weekend experience we were looking for.
What were some unique elements of your wedding? We loved the idea of our guests being whisked away as they arrived. Many of our guests described how surprised they were to round the corner and discover the gorgeous Canyon Springs waterfall. We also incorporated a plaque into our ceremony with the Bible verse "A cord of three strands is not easily broken along" and my son, Chris, and I braided three cords to signify our union before God and the coming together of our new family.
Did anything about your wedding exceed your expectations? The whole day! Thunderstorms the morning of forced us to move our reception indoors, so just being able to have our ceremony outside as planned was wonderful! We meticulously researched our vendors and they didn't let us down. The flowers were gorgeous, the food and cake were delicious, and the DJ kept the reception fun and on schedule. Also, our on-site coordinator was completely on the ball and took care of all the details so we could thoroughly enjoy our day.
What advice do you have for couples planning a San Antonio wedding? Know that in the end, you will marry your best friend and the napkin color, material, and fold won't matter as much as you think it does.
