Victoria Guadarram & Austin Riesselman
Hometowns: San Antonio & Halbur, Iowa
How did you meet? We met in college through a mutual friend on St. Patrick’s Day—sparks flew right away!
Tell us about the proposal. While living in Iowa, Austin proposed a date night to see a concert. As we arrived, I realized there actually wasn't a concert and Austin stopped in front of our favorite coffee spot and knelt down and asked me to spend the rest of my life with him. After a very ecstatic "Yes!" Austin revealed he had reserved the coffee shop for the afternoon and filled it with more than 12 dozen roses and had a photographer capture the whole thing! We sat together and ate cookies and sipped tea while soaking in every second of his perfect proposal
What inspired the design or theme of your wedding day? We both wanted something classic and elegant but with a little flare. We chose classic colors—black, ivory, and gold but added lavender as an accent to give the venue a little color.
How did you choose your venue and vendors? Since Austin’s family was going to be coming to Texas from Iowa, we knew we wanted to have everything close together and focused around everything San Antonio had to offer. San Fernando and the Embassy Suites Riverwalk both had the elegant and classic look we wanted for our wedding and are only two blocks away from each other.
What was the most trying part of the planning process? Planning from a distance. We planned half the wedding from Iowa before moving back to Texas in fall 2015.
What were some of the most unique elements of your wedding? Our cake topper was one-of-a-kind with silhouettes of us, as well as our dogs. We knew they couldn’t be there the day-of, but wanted to include them in some way. We also displayed images of our parents and grandparents from their wedding day.
Did anything about your wedding exceed your expectations? Everything. We were both blown away by the service of the Embassy Suites and the talents of our photographer and videographer.
What are your favorite memories from the day? We both enjoyed walking around the Riverwalk with our bridal party taking pictures after the ceremony. It gave us time to be with our closest friends and thank them for being with us on the best day of our lives.
What are your plans for the future? We recently bought our first house together in Plano and are busy making it our home. We have a lot of vacations planned for the next two years and are excited to share these adventures as husband and wife.
What advice do you have for couples planning a San Antonio wedding? Take advantage of the natural beauty and culture San Antonio has to offer. Growing up in San Antonio, its hard to appreciate the gorgeous details the city has that can easily be incorporated into a wedding theme.
