Caitlin Parras and Joey Russell
How did you meet? Joey and I met the summer after our senior year of high school. We had gone to the same junior high and high school in Katy, TX, and somehow we never crossed paths until then! He took me on our first date the month before we were supposed to leave to different colleges. Less than 2 months later, he officially asked me to be his girlfriend. He went to UTSA and I went to Texas State, and despite the distance, we could not stay away from each other. We visited each other almost every week and became inseparable. Fast forward 8 years, and here we are! After spending countless trips visiting him at school, we now call San Antonio our home.
Tell us about the proposal: Joey proposed to me at a pumpkin patch called Sweet Berry Farm in Marble Falls. He packed a picnic basket, and when we arrived, we were driven to a private area on a hay ride. I was told that Sweet Berry Farm had given us a private picnic. We were dropped off in a flower-filled field, and string lights hung on the trees around us. There was even a chandelier hanging from a tree in the center of the field. Joey told me he was going to set up the picnic while I had a look around. Once the picnic was set up and he called me back to him, he grabbed my hands and began his proposal speech. He got down on his knee and asked me to marry him! Afterwards he was hugging me, and I heard the sound of footsteps behind me. I turned around to see our families standing there! He brought them in from Katy, and we ended up spending the weekend celebrating with them in a house nearby that they rented. It was perfect!
What inspired the design or theme of your wedding day? Our goal with our wedding design was to bring a touch of classic elegance to the hill country. We wanted to have our dream wedding full of large, elegant floral arrangements and soft draping, while still enjoying the natural beauty of the outdoors that the hill country has to offer.
Why did you choose the venue and vendors you did? We chose Hidden Falls because we are the only two people from our families that live in the area. We wanted to show both of our families all of the beauty that the hill country has to offer. Hidden Falls was a great place to do this because the outdoor scenery was unbeatable, and the indoor ballroom was like a blank canvas! It also has a gorgeous chandelier that made my jaw drop.
I did lots of research on wedding websites to find my vendors. I chose my vendors not only based on reviews, but I made sure to talk with each one of them in person or on the phone. I chose Chic Concepts because Nicolette was amazing, and I felt she really understood what I was going for as far as wedding design. I also instantly clicked with the girls from Bend the Light. Not to mention, their lookbook was incredible.
What were some of the most unique elements of your wedding? Joey is a fiend for Krispy Kreme Donuts. On the wedding day, I surprised him with a Krispy Kreme Donut display that sat along side our wedding cake. Also, my father is an antique car collector, so we used his 1940 Desoto as our getaway car at the end of the evening. He was the driver, and it was really special to have him involved.
Did anything about your wedding exceed your expectations? Chic Concepts really blew me away with our floral arrangements. It was a long, floating arrangement that sat atop tall glass vases and were adorned with dripping crystals. Also, I never saw the dance floor empty the whole evening. That was a huge relief because we knew our guests were enjoying themselves!
What advice do you have for couples planning a San Antonio wedding? Take whatever pieces of San Antonio are important to you and go with it! The San Antonio area has so much to offer, so definitely take advantage of whatever it is that you love about it, whether it be the city or the hills. As far as choosing vendors goes, do your research and always have a chat with the vendor you are planning to book. I think it was definitely important to have a connection with my vendors, because you end up communicating through the process which for me was a year long!
