How did you meet?
Jacob and I met in millennial fashion through Bumble in Sep. 2017. He lived in San Angelo and I lived in San Antonio so we met half way in Junction. We stuck out like sore thumbs eating at Lum's BBQ then heading to one of the only bars in town. We didn't notice much or mind since we were both enjoying each other's company so much. After that first date we both left with a feeling that something was special about one another. We've been together ever since and will be moving to Germany in March for Jacob's job serving as a Staff Sergeant in the Air Force.
Tell us about the proposal
Jacob planned a surprise proposal that completely blew me away. He secretly met with my parents to ask them for permission and told them his plan. Our favorite special date spot is going to The Tower of Americas for happy hour. We hadn't been there in a while and he had said let's do a special date up there to make up for it. We had also been considering having Jacob's parents come down to meet my parents but they said they had to cancel last minute. They said they couldn't get their hotel night refunded downtown at the Drury Plaza and that we should take it for the night since we already had a fun date planned. So we went up to the Tower and when we were on the observation deck he got down on one knee and proposed! We went down to the Charthouse Restaurant and I asked if my parents knew about this and as we turned the corner all our parents were there to surprise us! I was shocked and couldn't believe how much planning he had done!
What inspired the design or theme of your wedding day?
The theme for my wedding was just classic elegance. Gold, greenery, touches of dusty purple mauve, lots of candlelight and soft lighting. Since it was a winter wedding and we knew the sun was going to set early, we wanted to play up the contrast with the darkness by using as much candlelight as possible. I don't really have an inspiration, it's just what I always envisioned. But Pinterest definitely helped bring my vision to life once I started getting more detailed!
Why did you choose the venue and vendors you did?
I chose The Veranda because I loved it's location and classic vibe it provided. The stone mansion was so beautiful and I loved that it had a great rain plan with their pavilion since it was a February wedding and I wanted to be prepared for every type of weather. I found Hannah Charis Photography on Wedding Wire and she was by far my favorite vendor. She made us feel so comfortable for both our engagement shoot and wedding day and was always there if I had any questions or concerns for wedding planning.
What were some of the most unique elements of your wedding?
I think one of our most unique elements was our dessert/candy bar. If you know us you know we (I) love candy. I had Elizabeth, the owner of Bowl and Whisk Bakery make not only our wedding cake, but cake pops, petit fours, and mini cupcakes to go with the personalized cookies and jars of candy we had displayed to be packed in our custom candy bags. The entire table of desserts and candy were demolished by the end of the night so I think our guests loved it as much as we did! We also had personalized koozies and mints as additional wedding favors along with a diy Photo Booth we created from a large gold frame we found at an estate sale.
Did anything about your wedding exceed your expectations?
Honestly everything exceeded my expectations! The fact that we had a perfectly sunny, 70 degree day in February was incredible. Especially given that it snowed in San Antonio a few days later! My dessert table was amazing and just seeing all the planning come together with all the decor was such a fun thing to watch come to life.
What advice do you have for couples planning a San Antonio wedding?
Our advice to San Antonio couples is to start planning early! Shop around all your options and compare prices if budget is a factor! I think finding vendors that you have a good connection is super important too. Feeling comfortable with the people that you're going to surround yourself with on the Big Day makes all the difference in the world.
