How did the two of you meet? We met through Joey's cousin Luis Gonzalez, who he was out with, and my friend Jennifer Smith, who I was out with. Luis and Jen knew each other from high school and Joey and I began chatting while they were saying hello to each other. The rest is history!
How did he propose? We started the night off at church, which was already a little different than our usual schedule because we normally go to church on Sunday mornings. He took me downtown to the Riverwalk for dinner at Luke and afterward we walked and walked and stopped in a few different bars and walked some more. As we walked over "The Selena" bridge, I was distracted by a lady trying to get her toddler in a stroller and he grabbed my hand and when I looked back at him he was on his knee and asked me to marry him. It happened so quickly, and while I knew it was coming at some point in the near future, the actual moment was a nice surprise. We stayed at The Westin that night and ate at our favorite brunch eatery, Las Canarias, the next morning. We were on Cloud 9.
What three characteristics made you fall for your husband? His humor, good looks and his confidence.
What was the inspiration behind the design of your wedding gown? I wanted something classic looking with a modern fit. I had always thought I would wear something with the lace appliqué or similar and when I began my search I decided the mermaid fit would be more flattering on my body type. The stylist at Julian Gold recommended the belt to add a little bling and I fell in love with it. It added the perfect touch!
How did you decide on what vendors you chose? I read reviews and also was referred to many vendors through friends.
What was the most trying part of the planning process? The guest list, by far!
Did either of you have a bride/groomzilla moment? I had a few bridezilla moments, mainly over the guest list. Our venue’s maximum capacity was 400, but with our large band, there was even less space. More people were added every time I turned around, but in the end it was wonderful!
What element of the wedding exceeded your expectations? All the vendors did an exceptional job! The venue we chose was my dream wedding venue and everything about it was perfect the day of our wedding. Our photographer Shelly Beck also exceeded our expectations by ensuring she captured every special moment of our day.
What was your favorite memory of the day? When my daddy gave me away to Joseph. Experiencing that moment and seeing both of their faces was so surreal and such a blessing from God.
What was his favorite memory of the day? Seeing me walk down the aisle and having all his close friends by his side.
If you were a guest attending your wedding, how would you describe it? Classy and fun!
Besides marrying the love of your life, what was the most important part of the day? When I read the special letter Joseph wrote to me before walking down the aisle and when my dad got to see me in my gown, fully ready to walk down the aisle.
What are your plans for the future? Joseph and I plan to stay in San Antonio near our families whom we are very close with. Eventually we plan to have children but will leave it up to God to decide when.
What advice do you have for brides and grooms planning a San Antonio wedding? Have fun! You will hear opinions on what you should or shouldn’t do or what this person or that person did for their wedding, but in the end, it is your day, so be a little selfish if someone insists on something you don’t want. Also, get away from the crowd more than once on your wedding day and just watch with no interruptions. The day goes by so fast and you’ll reminisce afterward and wish the moment lasted longer, so take it all in.
