How did you meet?
We met online after I messaged her. I came across her profile and couldn’t believe that this gorgeous dark red haired girl was single. I was living in a small city in Florida at the time and the thought of moving halfway across the country to be with her made me both nervous and excited. When the time came to make the big move, she flew two hours only to get in a car and drive 20 hours back. At that point I knew she was the one.
Tell us about the proposal.
I basically tanked the proposal! I tried my hardest to keep it a secret, but being a typical guy, I failed. When the time came she whispered between her teeth, “I know what you’re about to do.” Pushing through the defeat, I got down on one knee and popped the question. To me the moment was amazing! The holidays were approaching and we were under a massive oak tree adorned with hundreds of twinkling lights. The smile on her face, the blush on her cheeks, and the tears building in her eyes proved the moment was as magical to her as it was to me.
Why did you choose the venue and vendors you did?
The need for us and our guests to feel comfortable was top property. With that in mind, when we came across La Escondida Celebration Center, we knew we had found the perfect place. In Candy’s own words, it’s “the country, not the country club.” Having never been the black tie event type of people, this was music to our ears. The combination of open air and covered space was amazing, and it created the perfect environment for a spring wedding.
What were some of the most unique elements of your wedding?
When it came to our unity item, we felt as though sand was a little on the mondain side of the spectrum. Not to mention that the slightest shake or tilt in any direction would ruin it. With that in mind we searched for something a little more permanent and way less delicate, this lead us to canvas, vinyl, and paint. The concept was to cut out our last initial, ‘A’, stick it to a canvas, and pour paint on it, thus creating an ‘A’ shaped negative space with the colors of our choosing in the background once the vinyl was pulled away. We feel like this created a more lasting memento which we can treasure for years to come.
Did anything about your wedding exceed your expectations?
The venue and food definitely wowed us! The smoothness with which things ran left nothing to be desired, as right when we thought of something that needed to be done Candy and her staff were already on it. From start to finish, every detail was given the time and importance it deserved. This coupled with the delicious food from Riverside Catering, had all of our guests in awe.
What advice do you have for couples planning a San Antonio wedding?
We suggest that you do your research and not settle. Find a place that will get you the most bang for your buck and that has years of experience, know how, connections, and resources to make your wedding one of the most memorable days of your life. La Escondida Celebration Center is a great example of what you should be looking for. Renewing vows can be beautiful, but the original wedding only happens once.
