Jessica Giles & Steven McColley
Hometowns: Jupiter, FL & San Antonio
How did you meet? Steven and I met at Florida State University where we both went to college.
Tell us about the proposal. I was living in Houston at the time Steven proposed. We started off the evening with dinner at Spindletop Restaurant at the top of the Hyatt Regency Houston hotel and then headed back to my place to change clothes to go out for drinks.
While I was getting ready, he asked me to sit on the couch because he had a video to show me. The video was a compilation of memories over the course of our five-year relationship—it was such a sweet gesture! At the end of the video it said, “Jessica, will you marry me?” Steven stood in front of me, got on one knee, and asked me to marry him. I was very emotional from the excitement, but of course said yes!
What inspired the design of your wedding day? Our college colors—garnet and gold.
How did you choose your venue and vendors? I chose my venue based on the beauty of the Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort & Spa. The Hyatt Hill Country was also the perfect location because all of my family was coming from out of town and I wanted to make it convenient for them by having the ceremony and reception all in one location.
My vendors where chosen based on overall cost and quality they could provide.
Jennifer Craft was excellent! I couldn't have asked for a better planner! I could always count on her to be on top of things. She was friendly and professional and made sure everything ran smoothly. I am so appreciative of her because she understood my vision and brought it to life.
What was the most trying part of the planning process? Honestly, the bridesmaid’s dresses were the most stressful part of the entire planning process. Four out of my six bridesmaids lived in Florida and we had to purchase bridesmaids dress at least five months in advance in order to get them in time and ship them to Florida. It was just a timely process and I had a tough time actually finding the dress in the color and design I liked best.
What were some of the most unique elements of your wedding? I really love that we incorporated our Florida State Seminole pride into our wedding. We incorporated our college colors, grooms cake, party favors (koozies), floral arrangement, bridesmaid’s dress, walked into the FSU War Chant, and even the pastor who married us graduated from FSU.
Did anything about your wedding exceed your expectations? Everything about our wedding exceeded my expectations! From the food to the DJ to the photographer to the floral to my coordinator—it could not have been more perfect!
What are your favorite memories from the day? One of my favorite moments was walking down the aisle and seeing the look of excitement and happiness on my future husband's face. In that moment, everything was perfect. I also loved dancing the night away with family and friends.
What are your plans for the future? We plan to eventually move back to Florida to be closer to my family and then hopefully start a family of our own.
What advice do you have for couples planning a San Antonio wedding? Don’t stress about every little thing because it all works out in the end. All that matters is that you are marrying the person you love.
