Howard Drezner & Jacob Patino
How did you meet? Jacob and I met online in 2003, way before it was "trendy." After sending canned messages back and forth, Howard paid a membership fee to be able to contact Jacob, and as they say, the rest is history.
Tell us about the proposal. Jacob is obsessed with Disney World and all things Disney. After visiting three times during their relationship, Howard proposed to Jacob in front of the Beast during a photo op, right after having dinner at Be Our Guest.
What inspired the design or theme of your wedding day? The color palette of our wedding consisted of blue and green, which happen to be our favorite colors. We first saw the combination together at an LGBT wedding expo in town, and that's how we knew our colors would work well together. Regarding a theme, we're both huge Disney fans, so we added bits of Disney here and there like Mickey cufflinks and printed photos of Disney "couples" at each table that served as table markers.
Why did you choose the venue and vendors you did? We became interested in The Club at Sonterra after attending a friend's baby shower there earlier in the year. After meeting with the catering director there, and learning how much they provide for you, it was a no-brainer. We first saw Lumen Events at a wedding expo and were impressed with what they offered. The setup is fantastic, and the two-man team is fantastic. What sold us was our meeting with Bryan. Not only did he work really well with us, but he was the life of the party at our wedding reception. We selected Rex Formal Wear, which has been in business in San Antonio for a really long time, because of our meeting with Raymond at the San Pedro location. Raymond was very friendly and happy to help a gay couple out. Our photos from Limelight San Antonio were absolutely amazing—we highly recommend Josh! And we chose Meemo's Bakery because the cakes were delicious and reasonably priced.
What were some of the most unique elements of your wedding? The pieces of Disney magic such as a rose from Beauty and the Beast at our sweetheart table and the larger-than-life Olaf (from Frozen) ice sculpture with our names, wedding date, and the phrase "Some people were worth melting for"; our personalized ceremony; a custom monogram on the wall, courtesy of Lumen; and our homemade candy buffet, which also served as our gift to our guests. The entire wedding was unique to us. We personally selected every element of it.
Did anything about your wedding exceed your expectations? Everything. We honestly couldn't have asked or planned for a better event. Our venue was spectacular. Our food and drinks were great. Our ceremony was great. Our DJ and emcee kept the party going. We had top-notch vendors all the way!
What advice do you have for couples planning a San Antonio wedding? Do your homework and select qualified, reputable vendors who will take the stress out of wedding planning. Attending a wedding expo and open house is a great way to find top-notch vendors in town. What's even better is when they all know and regularly work with each other. Our venue, design coordinator (and day-of planner), DJ, and photographer all knew each other and had worked together on many different weddings.
