Jordan & Andrew
How did you meet? Andrew and I met five years ago at the Thirsty Horse Saloon in San Antonio. While neither of us went to this place very often, we both somehow found ourselves there on this random Thursday night. I was in town from Austin for Spring Break and was out celebrating my acceptance into nursing school while Andrew happened to be out with friends. Immediately, when I walked into the bar Andrew caught my eye. We spent most of the night catching each other looking each other's way. We ended up finally getting a dance in together before closing time and exchanged numbers. Before we knew it, we were traveling back and forth from Austin to San Antonio getting to know each other and the rest is history.
Tell us about the proposal. Andrew proposed in front of our closest family and friends at an Ugly Christmas Sweater Party/House Warming Party. Let’s just say it was the ultimate surprise! We were standing with my sister in the center of our living room, making a toast. Which I thought was odd for the event, but I went with it. The three of us were standing to say a few words. My sister first, then myself and then Andrew. Andrew started talking and thanking our family and friends for coming out. All of a sudden, I see him start moving to stand in front of me and get down on one knee. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw this little box in his hands behind his back. I was in immediate disbelief and could not help but start crying tears of joy and excitement. It was an obvious yes to marry this amazing man and the perfect moment—despite my outfit choice!
What inspired the design or theme of your wedding day? Andrew and I like to say that we are simple people. We enjoy the little things in life, but love to have fun with friends and family. So, for our wedding we wanted just that—something simple but elegant and for all of our family and friends to have the absolute best time.
Why did you choose the venue and vendors you did? Andrew and I were both born and raised in San Antonio. Also, Andrew is a die-hard, true San Antonian. He absolutely loves this city and the San Antonio Spurs. So, we wanted our wedding in the heart of San Antonio, and therefore downtown was an absolute must. We decided on the San Fernando Cathedral because it was close to our hearts as Andrew's late grandparents were married in this church.
What were some of the most unique elements of your wedding? Although becoming more popular, the most unique part of our wedding was serving Whataburger Jr. Burgers and Fries to our guests as a late night snack. We LOVE Whataburger and thought it was perfect for our late night snack, as it has been our late night snack many times. Our family and friends really enjoyed it!
Did anything about your wedding exceed your expectations? So many things exceeded our expectations. Father Duda's homily during our ceremony was beautiful, intimate and absolutely perfect. The coordinating, floral and venue setup by Chantel Aboytes & Josie Aboytes was everything I wanted and more! My first look walking into the venue took my breath away. It was truly a dream and absolutely beautiful. These ladies made all of my Pinterest dreams come true and I cannot thank them enough. Monica Roberts and her assistant were absolutely amazing! They are so personable, welcoming and creative. We love working with Monica and her work is simply beautiful.
What advice do you have for couples planning a San Antonio wedding? Our advice for couples planning a San Antonio wedding is to truly take in every single moment of the wedding planning/wedding week and to have fun! It is such a special time in our lives and goes by so quick!
