Kristin Davis and Xavier Adame know something about love: it first starts with a strong friendship.
The happy couple met one another as work colleagues and remained close friends for several years, until something sparked.
Over the span of those years, Kristin and Xavier realized they both shared similar passions for traveling, food, and the outdoors. Their friendship ignited an unbreakable bond they couldn’t ignore.
“Xavier and I were together for years before he proposed,” Kristin says. “We took our time getting to know each other better, but we always knew early on that we were each other’s future.”
Lights and Love on the River
The holidays are often a uniquely favorite time of year for couples to celebrate a wedding because family and friends are already home, the weather in South Texas is usually favorable, and of course, there’s that certain magic that lingers in the air.
And that’s exactly what Kristin and Xavier wanted to capture on their wedding day. “Christmas is my favorite time of year, and the Riverwalk always seems to carry a bit of charm during the holiday season,” Kristin says. “Sharing the Riverwalk during Christmas with friends and family sounded so exciting to us. It made for a perfect accent to our celebration.”
Both Kristin and Xavier had their hearts set on a downtown location for their nuptials. The heart of San Antonio has always been significant to the couple and an important part of their relationship. “Xavier lived one block from the Alamo, so many evenings and weekends were spent exploring downtown events and festivities,” says the bride.
After a traditional Christian ceremony at the Little Church of La Villita, guests traveled to Rio Plaza for the reception. It was the venue’s ambience that initially attracted the couple. “We met Melanie Planas at Rio Plaza, and her attentiveness and competence immediately put me at ease. And the spaces the venue had available were perfect for the intimate atmosphere we had been going for.”
Guests dined on fresh shrimp brochette, stuffed mushrooms, and prosciutto-wrapped asparagus with antipasto skewers during cocktail hour in the Las Leyendas room. Beer, wine, and signature margaritas were also served before dinner. “It was so simple but so good,” Kristin gushes. The room had a Spanish flair with a balcony overlooking the Riverwalk. “Las Leyendas really set an elegant tone for the rest of the evening,” Kristin says. “And I loved the Edison lights that were strung outside!”
Dinner, which included beef tenderloin and chicken cordon bleu, was held in the Penthouse on the fourth floor, followed by drinks and dancing in the Cielo Vista room, a sophisticated space with uplighting and lounge furniture that made for an upscale dance party setting.
“Overall, I was able to incorporate the best of both worlds that day,” Kristin says. “It was a very soft, feminine ceremony, cocktail hour, and dinner, and then a transition to a party aesthetic for the remainder of the night with dark linens and décor.”
On a sweet note, the couple offered a hot chocolate and coffee bar during the reception. “Melanie suggested the fun idea,” Kristin says. “It was a big hit with the children and a perfect idea for a December wedding.”
Planning Makes Perfect
Kristin knew she wanted to surround herself with the best vendors on her one special day, and in order to do that she had to first go to a professional to help guide her. “We wanted to ensure that the wedding day was stress-free, and I understood that meant I needed to hire the best and reputable vendors,” the bride says. “As soon as I met Stacey DeWine with Panache Event Group, I knew she would be the perfect fit for us.”
Stacey helped the couple with all the necessary details and more, which Kristin is thankful for.
“She impressed me with her professionalism and experience which carried through to the big day,” Kristin says. “I cannot emphasize enough to new brides the importance of budgeting for a planner. Stacey helped me avoid many possible money pitfalls. On my wedding day, all I needed to worry about was spending time with my friends and family. She handled all of the details and ensured our vision was brought to life perfectly. That peace of mind is priceless.”
