Mandee Walker and Jason Bonugli were married in front of a spellbinding waterfall at the Canyon Springs Golf Club. We talked to Mandee, Jason, and Nancy Hernandez of Eventfully Yours to hear how they turned a fairy tale into reality.
How did you meet? We met through a mutual friend.
Tell us about the proposal: He proposed on the beach in front of our family and friends memorial day weekend.
What inspired the design or theme of your wedding day? My husband ropes and grew up on a ranch. My father ropes and grew up on a ranch. My whole life I've been around the country lifestyle. It was fitting to do a rustic chic theme.
Why did you choose the venue and vendors you did? I fell in love with the waterfall at Canyon Springs and my wedding planner gave me the best vendor options.
What were some of the most unique elements of your wedding? The waterfall ceremony and the ceremony and reception flowers and centerpieces were to die for.
Did anything about your wedding exceed your expectations? Everything exceeded my expectations. It was so much more than I could have ever imagined.
What advice do you have for couples planning a San Antonio wedding? Get a wedding planner and visit your venue around the same time as your wedding date to get a good idea of weather.
What was the inspiration for the décor and atmosphere of the wedding? Mandee and Jason’s destination wedding in San Antonio, Texas was set in a rustic chic venue with a gorgeous waterfall as their ceremony backdrop.
They both loved the colors of marsala and magenta. The bridesmaids were all dressed in those colors with bouquets that paired nicely. The combination of the destination wedding setting and colors provided their overall wedding inspiration.
How would you describe the end result? The end result was breathtaking! The colors were truly stunning for the venue! The floral and wine barrels stood out against the golf greens and waterfall for their ceremony. The floral added bold and rich elements, which made for an elegant and chic design.
What was the best part of the planning process? The best part was getting to know the couple’s vision and bring it to fruition. During our first meetings, their vision was a rough draft. It was an honor to help them bring their vision to reality and help them secure amazing vendors. I loved when Mandee and her mom would come to San Antonio for a day of back-to-back appointments.
What special touches did Mandee and Jason bring to the planning process? Mandee and Jason wanted their guests to have an overall fun and wonderful experience celebrating with them. In order to provide this atmosphere for their guests, they included in their invitations a song request question that would get them on the dance floor. With the help of Bryan at Lumen Events, the dance floor was always packed! It was hard to pull guests off the dance floor for the send off!
What was the most rewarding moment of the evening? The most rewarding moment of the evening was seeing Mandee and Jason’s reaction to the venue after setup. They were both in awe of how everything turned out! It remains one of my favorite moments as a wedding planner.
How did you decide on vendors ? When I meet with my couples at the beginning of the planning, I ask a million questions and listen to their responses. Based on this process, I am able to capture a glimpse of their personalities, what parts of the wedding are a priority, and their overall wedding vision. After discussing these things with Mandee and Jason, I was able to narrow down a list of vendors that I knew would be a great fit based on personality, price point, and priority!
What advice do you have for couples beginning the planning process? Hire a wedding planner (of course!) and create your guest list before you select any of your vendors including the venue. I recommend hiring a planner not because I am a planner but because I truly believe that wedding planners are able to create a plan that reduces the overall stress of the wedding planning process. There are so many elements of a wedding that can cause stress for couples that are unanticipated. A planner can help anticipate and relieve the stressful parts so everyone has a wonderful time!
Is there anything from this wedding you plan to repeat? I plan to repeat and continue the focus of being a flexible planner. Since Mandee and Jason live in Laredo, being flexible with scheduling helped us in the overall planning process.
