Misti Fischnar and Mark Brown were a match waiting to happen on the famous dating website of a similar name. “We both couldn’t believe how similar our profiles were,” Misti says of their connection on Match.com. God, hunting, fishing, and traveling were among their shared interests. “It was everything important we had been looking for.”
Hooked On You
Misti was adamant that their first meet-and-greet be at Starbucks, and after about two hours of getting to know one another, she remembers not wanting to leave. The couple’s compatibility was immediately off the charts. So, Mark asked Misti out on their first official date to shoot guns on a ranch. “Of course my response was, ‘Heck, yes!’” Misti says. “Let’s just say Mark was pretty impressed by my sharp shooting skills.”
On a January day, after many fishing, hunting, and traveling adventures, Mark popped the question on an oilrig in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico. “He proposed after I had reeled in my biggest yellow fin tuna yet,” the bride says. “We celebrated with steak, lobster, and champagne. It was quite the memorable night for us at one of our favorite places doing what we love.”
Where Rustic Meets Chic
The couple’s October 17 rustic chic wedding took place at the charming River Rock Event Center nestled in the Texas Hill Country. As part of the ceremony design, two wine barrels featuring tall floral bouquets sat next to vintage wooden doors through which Misti would enter to make her way down the aisle on a burlap runner. “When my father and I drove up to the ceremony site, I was able to see how amazing everything looked—the vintage chandeliers hanging in the trees, the wine barrels and floral arrangements, and the big doors that were closed.” She didn’t want Mark to see her before her grand entrance. “I will always remember when those vintage doors opened and I walked down to my groom staring at me with that amazing smile of his.”
Misti and Mark said “I do” beneath giant oak trees surrounded by their family and friends—and some wildlife, too. “Our love of the outdoors came through in our ceremony space, which had axis deer frolicking in the background.”
Cocktail hour and an indoor dinner followed the ceremony, where the bride’s specific vision came to life in a stunning way. “The vintage French feel of the indoor dining room embodied my dream,” Misti says. The dining room exuded romantic ambience with amber and blush uplighting on the walls while tables were dressed with ivory linens, burlap squares, vintage candelabras, and opulent floral centerpieces. “I had a vision, and I knew I could pull off rustic elegance at River Rock. It was jaw-dropping, heart-stopping, and picturesque,” Misti says. “It was exactly what I had always envisioned.”
These Boots Were Made for Dancing
After dinner, Misti donned a gift from her husband—a pair of custom turquoise cowboy boots embellished with her new initials, and the newlyweds and their guests made their way back outside to the patio to start the party. “It seemed the more interactive dances were the most popular,” Misti says. “The DJ kept those songs going to increase the dance floor traffic, which made it so fun.”
And because she’s obsessed with everything vintage, Misti had a vintage sofa and chairs along with rustic benches with pillows placed around the dance floor to give a cozy feel and create an inviting atmosphere for everyone. “I wanted the dance floor to be more appealing and help guests congregate.”
Beautiful uplighting and a gobo monogram displayed against the silo made the patio even more intimate and personalized, and wine barrels like the ones used in the ceremony were used as cocktail tables on the patio and around the dance floor.
More than just a beautiful night to remember, the evening was a dream come true for Misti. “At one point, my cousin stopped and said, ‘Just look how perfect this is. Take a picture in your head so you will always remember this exact moment and how beautiful everything turned out.’”
