Savannah Richards & Austin Smith
Hometowns: Kerrville & San Antonio
How did you meet? We actually met on Tinder! I'm his "Tinderella." He took me on a date to Cowboys Dancehall. I had no idea how to dance but went anyway. Everyone wanted to dance with him, he is the best dancer I’ve ever met. Out of every girl at the dancehall, he kept wanting to dance with me and that night he made me feel so special.
Tell us about the proposal. It was the day before Halloween and we were having a little Halloween party at my parent's house. I was dressed as Pikachu and he as Ash Ketchum. I ran upstairs for a second and as I came back down and around the corner, he was down on one knee in front of everyone and asked me to marry him. He is my best friend and I couldn't imagine saying yes to anyone else.
What inspired the design or theme of your wedding day? Austin and I both grew up in boots and the outdoors. Rustic seemed to fit our personalities perfectly. Two-stepping was a must. After all, he did win my heart with his dancing.
Why did you choose the venue and vendors you did? Finding vendors I wanted was pretty easy! I went with the vendors who wanted the best for Austin and me on our wedding day. We picked Zio’s to cater our dinner because not only are Austin and I are obsessed with Italian food (which we now live in Italy, how great is that) but that was the first place we had dinner together. It was really special that everyone could have dinner with us for the first time as a married couple.
What were some unique elements of your wedding? The people who were there to share the day with us. Family is a big deal for me and Austin and to have our family and closest friends there was all we really needed for our day to be complete. Everything else was just cherries on top!
Did anything about your wedding exceed your expectations? Everything! I tried not to focus on the details too much because being a bridezilla makes it miserable for not only yourself but everyone around you. Letting things just go as they flow worked for our journey! Everything was so beautiful and elegant, better than I'd pictured in my head.
What are your favorite memories from the day? Walking down that aisle and seeing my best friend. The moment I saw him I wanted to burst into tears of joy. I could hardly hold myself together. Being surrounded by so much love felt so amazing. That day flew by so fast. I wish I could've lived in that moment forever.
What advice do you have for couples planning a San Antonio wedding? Compromise. Everything can be compromised and worked out. Listen to each other, don't think that it's just the bride’s day, it's a day to celebrate both the bride and groom. Be happy! You're getting ready to embark on a journey into the rest of life. And as a friend once told me: forgive quickly, kiss slowly, love truly, and laugh uncontrollably.
