Kindall Stephens & Blair Shannon
Hometowns: Corpus Christi, TX & Charleston, SC
How did you meet? We met while I was in graduate school at Clemson University and Blair was working in the area after school.
Tell us about the proposal. Blair planned a day of activities that represented the things he loved about our relationship then popped the question at the overlook above the lake where we first exchanged "I love you’s." The day included going to a botanical garden, hiking, lunch with friends, and going to an art museum.
What inspired the design or theme of your wedding day? The idea focused on having the event be warm and welcoming. We wanted it to feel like an amazing party with friends and family— which was exactly what we got.
Why did you choose the venue and vendors you did? We were looking for a church or chapel to be married in that would pair well with a reception area. Lost Mission fit perfectly as it was warm, inviting, and offered everything we needed—only a few steps apart. All of the vendors were a huge blessing as first appointments immediately felt right.
What were some of the most unique elements of your wedding? The cake topper was custom made by Tadeusz Kacalak, a Polish artist that I’d known growing up—it’s now a Christmas tree ornament for us. Also, the graphics for the seating arrangements were done by my sister, Taylor Stephens.
Did anything about your wedding exceed your expectations? The Austin Nines were phenomenal and kept people dancing all night. Bird Bakery's cake (Guinness chocolate with Jameson chocolate ganache and salted caramel icing) blew everyone away. Hotel Emma was immensely accommodating for our wedding night.
What advice do you have for couples planning a San Antonio wedding? There are tons of amazing options out there, so after you find a venue or vendor that is a good fit, stop looking. It is a special day that you always want to remember, but don't let the stress of deciding between great options ruin your big day.
