Heather Jimenez & Anthony Salinas
Hometowns: San Antonio & San Marcos
How did you meet? Anthony and I met through chance more than 10 years ago in San Marcos through his cousin who happens to be a sorority sister of mine. My girlfriends and I had traveled up to San Marcos for a night on the town and we were introduced at his parents' house prior to going out. After enjoying the company of our friends, we spent the remainder of the evening talking and even shared our first kiss! We lived in different cities at the time and kept in touch over the years; however, we didn’t reconnect until Anthony’s 30th birthday party. We spent the entire summer becoming friends and eventually falling in love! From then on we were inseparable and the rest as they say is history.
Tell us about the proposal. We had planned a trip to Fredericksburg to celebrate Anthony's parents' anniversary at Grape Creek Vineyard. As friends and family arrived, we walked the grounds and sampled wines. Afterwards, everyone wanted to take pictures out by the vineyard. As we were taking group pictures, one by one people began to taper off until it was just the two of us. At that point, Anthony's sister handed him a bottle of wine and asked him if it was something we would want. Anthony handed me the bottle and asked if I liked that type of wine. When I looked at the front of the wine bottle, to my surprise, there was a sticker with "Will You Marry Me?" on it. Anthony then got down on one knee and presented me with the most beautiful ring! As if that wasn't a surprise enough, it turns out he had one more! Once he had proposed he pointed out past our group of friends and family and walking towards us were my parents who had been able to witness the whole thing! It was such a beautiful and memorable moment for both of us.
What inspired the design of your wedding day? I had never spent my childhood dreaming about my wedding, so when we were deciding on a theme we chose to use our everyday lives as inspiration. We wanted something very down to earth and not a lot of hassle. We decided to keep everything simple (like us), but with a personal touch. Our wedding day design blended charming rustic décor with traditional modern elegance.
How did you choose your venue and vendors? The wedding date we chose was very particular to us so that is what dictated which venue and vendors we selected. As soon as we got engaged I purchased a ton of local wedding magazines and made it a point to attend the Bridal Extravaganza. Using these resources helped us narrow down and finally select our venue and vendors based on our budget.
What was the most trying part of the planning process? Definitely keeping track of and dealing with the little things that inevitably pop up. It took a lot of Excel spreadsheets, detailed entries in my planner, and wine to keep it all together!
What were some of the most unique elements of your wedding? I think having a dear and close friend preside over our nuptials added a unique element to our wedding. It allowed him to give an intimate touch to our wedding vows as he had watched us fall in love over the years. It was such an honor to have someone we love so much be able to contribute to our marriage in such an impactful way.
Did anything about your wedding exceed your expectations? Our DJ was incredible! He’s a personal friend but also a radio DJ, which means he knows what he’s doing. However, we were just so blown away with how well he was able to read our guests to ensure that the dance floor was always packed. He created such a vibrant and fun atmosphere that we even had several guests ask to fly him out for their own occasions!
What are your favorite memories from the day? Besides the moment of walking down the aisle to marry the love of my life, our favorite memories were made while celebrating with those closest to us. We spent the majority of our time dancing the night away and I don’t think we could have imagined a more spectacular time!
What are your plans for the future? We plan to stay in San Antonio where we have built our home, enjoy wonderful careers, have amazing friends, and are close to family. Eventually, we would like to add to our family and continue to build on the incredible foundation we have already created.
What advice do you have for couples planning a San Antonio wedding? Our advice would be to decide on the type of wedding you want, what your budget is (and stick to it), and never second guess yourself once decisions have been made. It is so easy to get overwhelmed in the planning process as well as by the opinion of others. Use resources like the Bridal Extravaganza to decide on vendors, but most importantly, create the type of day you will want to remember for the rest of your lives!
