Lindsey Browning & Russell Czernek
Hometown: Round Rock
How did you meet? I worked at Subway in Round Rock and one day Russ came in and loved the sandwich I made him and couldn’t stop thinking about the ‘sandwich’ and came back to ask me out the next day. Russ is so shy, and I am not. So the first date was mainly me talking and him listening.
Tell us about the proposal. It was beautiful! He planned it out with our two closet friends. We went to the River Walk for New Year’s Eve. He had my friend distract me and got down on one knee behind me. I just kept crying and screaming “Are you serious?!” I didn’t actually say yes until an hour afterwards!
What inspired the design or theme of your wedding day? Everything was so up in the air because I had a difficult time making any type of decision. But it finally came together after we found the maid of honor’s dress. Most of the decorations were from my house or something my maid of honor and I made by hand. Lots of love and time!
Why did you choose the venue you did? Well I knew I wanted it to be in a botanical garden, and when I met Shimeyka with the San Antonio Botanical Garden, I knew this was the place.
What were some of the most unique elements of your wedding? Well we had 11 of our 17 nieces and nephews as the flower girls and ring bearers! Also, for our unity ceremony we both planted succulents in a pot I made, and each guest added a scoop of dirt when the first arrived.
Did anything about your wedding exceed your expectations? So many of our guests were blown away by the gardens. Everything was blooming and just stunning! Also, there were fireworks during the reception—not ours and not intended, but they brought us back to how we got engaged and it was so sweet!
What advice do you have for couples planning a San Antonio wedding? Don’t put the cart before the horse. I know its super exciting to be engaged, then it’s like ‘oh my goodness I have to plan a wedding!’ Just take it one step at a time.
