Carly Morris & Brian Ward
Hometowns: San Antonio & Manlius, NY
How did you meet? We met in 2009 when we were in high school and attending a Young Life camp in Colorado. It was love at first sight. We kept up through Skype and phone calls, and after years of keeping in touch long distance, we began to date long distance in college.
Tell us about the proposal. After four years of dating, we finally had an anniversary where we lived in the same city. He took me on a morning hike at Lookout Mountain in Denver, gave me a sweet book recapping our years together, and proposed. Our families waited at the bottom and celebrated with us.
What inspired the design or theme of your wedding day? Due to all of Brian's guests and family being from the northeast, most never had been to Texas. With that, my family wanted to show them the beauty of Texas. We wanted southern elegance and the Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa definitely delivered that charm!
Why did you choose the venue and vendors you did? It was a no-brainer with the Hyatt Hill Country. It was beautiful and the staff was incredibly helpful. We found our wedding planner, Diana Boucher, through high recommendations from the Hyatt and friends. It was through her that we found most of our vendors.
What were some unique elements from your wedding? It was fun to share Texas culture with the guests through the mariachi band for cocktail hour, which most had never heard mariachi music before. It was also special to include wedding photos of our parents and grandparents as decorations throughout the venue to show a personal touch.
Did anything about your wedding exceed your expectations? One thing we keep talking about was our band, In10City. They had us all on the dance floor the entire night. All ages ranging from 18 years old to 82 years old (and in a wheel chair!) were found on the dance floor. People still rave about how great they were.
What advice do you have for couples planning a San Antonio wedding? We suggest maximizing all aspects of San Antonio. We used the downtown scenery both for the rehearsal dinner and the Hill Country for the wedding. It was a blast to plan and show off both the history and beauty of San Antonio. We owe it to vendors we loved working with!
