For Kaci Brewer and James Rittimann, true love struck at the most romantic moment—during a wedding. “James was the best man at our good friend’s wedding, and I was a guest,” Kaci explains. That night, the future husband and wife danced together as mere strangers but left with dreams of a future together. “We became close friends over the next couple of months,” Kaci says. “People always tease us that we met at a wedding, and I really believe it was meant to be.”
The pair had dated for three years when James decided to pop the question. “You know, after being together for so long you’d think you’d expect to see the proposal coming,” says Kaci. “But he completely surprised me. I didn’t have a clue at all.”
James had made lunch reservations for Kaci’s birthday at a local Boerne restaurant. She noticed he was acting a bit unusual but ended up dismissing his odd behavior. “I didn’t think twice about it,” she remembers. But as James paid for their meal, he asked Kaci if she wanted to walk along the river. “This was the weird part of it all—we live in Boerne and don’t really do the tourist thing of walking by the river very often,” Kaci explains. After a few minutes of walking and talking in the serene setting, James got down on one knee and asked Kaci to be his wife. “I now know there were signs of it coming, but I was so surprised!” Later that night, the couple had a huge celebration with their friends and families.
A self-proclaimed country girl, Kaci always dreamt of a rustic wedding. The couple knew they wanted to keep their wedding local and found a gem of a venue close by.
On June 4, the lovebirds tied the knot in a short but sweet outdoor ceremony on the rolling hills of Sisterdale Dance Hall & Opera House, just a short drive north of Boerne. Kaci donned a gorgeous lace, high-neck, mermaid-style dress in ivory and wore her hair in a classic updo.
“We booked Sisterdale for a number of reasons, but mostly because of the charm,” Kaci says. “We wanted a fun, rustic, open layout, and that is exactly what Sisterdale gave us. It didn’t need a lot of decoration—it’s beautiful as is.” Kaci especially fell in love with the venue’s ceremony space spanning the bank of West Sister Creek and nestled beneath canopies of beautiful oak trees. “It is just so calm and serene out there. Since the space was very open, we added two antique doors that I stood behind at the start of the aisle, which was lined with rose petals, and we had two large floral arrangements by the doors.”
Dance Hall Dreamin’
It was easy to select a reception area—Sisterdale Dance Hall does it all. “Another perk of our venue was how close everything is in proximity to one another,” says the bride. “I can’t stress how convenient it was for our guests to go from the ceremony to the reception in just a few short steps.”
From the dress to the decor, a simple, elegant, and rustic vision inspired all of the couple’s choices. White linens and pink and ivory florals with a touch of greenery adorned each table inside the historic dance hall, which, much like the outdoor ceremony space, needed little decorating. The rustic-chic venue boasts character from floor-to-ceiling.
“Sisterdale Dance Hall was the biggest blessing,” Kaci says. “Rhonda, the venue’s event coordinator, made sure everything was perfect. She did a great job organizing and running the event. She was there every time I needed her.”
At the end of the night, guests cheered the couple on with giant glow sticks as they made their grand exit.
“The best advice I wish I could have given myself is to soak in every moment,” the bride reflects. “Before you know it, the day is over. Don’t waste any time on overthinking the tiny details no one but you will notice. Enjoy yourself.”
