Elva Loredo & Alexander Espinosa
Hometowns: San Antonio
How did you meet? Alex and I met on January 20, 2012. Short and sweet—we met at a bar. I was out with girlfriends and he was out with a buddy. I remember noticing a tall, handsome guy walking in, and I immediately told my friend: "Hey, check out that guy, what a cutie." Of course, he and I kept giving eye signals across the bar until he finally walked up to me right before I had to leave. We talked over drinks, and I already knew I liked him. We exchanged numbers and hit it off.
Tell us about the proposal. December 24, 2014, my life changed. Christmas Eve is a big deal for my family. We all get together and celebrate at my parent’s house. I had no idea he was planning a proposal. Alex asked my dad for my hand in marriage and he let all my brothers know before he popped the question. The proposal was so romantic. It was him and I alone standing on my parents' beautiful porch. He got down on one knee and said: "You know I love you so much, right? I love you, babe. I can't see my life without you. Will you marry me?" I cried my eyes out because I couldn't believe it. Of course, I said yes right away. He made this night even more special for me because we shared our happiness with my entire family. It was an unforgettable Christmas Eve I will cherish forever!
What inspired the design or theme of your wedding day? Alex and I had a shabby chic vintage wedding. I wanted a beautiful simple wedding, nothing too fancy. I’m a fan of vintage stuff and love old things! A lot of the décor was DIY, between myself, my mother-in-law Patricia, my mother-in-law’s best friend Laurie, and my mom.
Why did you choose the venue and vendors you did? I fell in love with The Grande Hall at Hofmann Ranch. I knew it would fit our theme perfectly. It was the only and last place we looked.
What were some of the most unique elements of your wedding? I really cherished my centerpieces that my mother and a close family friend Laurie created because they were simple but beautiful. The flowers I picked were different with the exception of the white and pink roses. I used wax flower and stock flower as well. It was a perfect combination.
Did anything about your wedding exceed your expectations? Yes! Planning a DIY wedding with close family and friends and it turning out just the way you dreamed it would is such a blessing. Also, our photographer Lisa on Location was amazing—she captured every moment and she was very sweet.
What are your favorite memories from the day? Being with all of our family and friends. They made it so very special for me and Alex. We enjoyed celebrating with each and every one of them.
What advice do you have for couples planning a San Antonio wedding? Go with your first instinct, be patient, and enjoy planning your dream wedding. The way I see it: you will only get married once! Cherish every minute of it.
