Marissa K. Goodwin and John J. Benavidez
How did you meet? Being military brats our whole lives we constantly moved around and made life-long friends everywhere we went. Our story started in 2009 in Misawa, Japan. We were both attending Robert D. Edgren High School at the time, although we knew each other before we actually started dating. We spent our time at the Mokateki playing video games, pool and spending time with our friends. Our first date was at a new restaurant that was built right off of the base, called Tex Mex. We had a great dinner, talked, and then went on a walk off the base where we walked past a wall of flowers. John plucked a flower off the wall and put it behind my ear. So romantic, right? John has always been so sweet and thoughtful
Tell us about the proposal. One day, we received some mail that included a jeweler invoice, I didn’t open it but a girl could assume! Once John got home I questioned what it was. I could tell he was upset and I dropped the subject. Months had passed and we did not speak of the invoice. We were planning a trip with our friends to travel through South Carolina and Georgia. I had no idea that John was going to propose during our vacation with friends, it was a complete surprise! We all headed out to dinner at Hudson on the Dock Restaurant. Once we arrived there was a sunset over the dock so we all decided to take photos. We did multiple photos as a group and then John asked to take a photo with just me. He got down on one knee in front of the whole restaurant and our friends. We all enjoyed the rest of our night together!
What was the inspiration behind your theme/design? We are a simple and fun couple so we wanted our guests to enjoy the simplicity of our lives. We incorporated neutral colors with pops of blush pink and maps of the world to symbolize our travels across the world together!
What were some of the unique details from your day? All of our wedding guests came from all over the United States and other parts of the world! We have a very unique story that brings many cultures and diverse people together from all over. We love our travels and wanted everyone to be apart of our day!
Did anything about your wedding exceed your expectations? The overall flow of the day, love, and fun was truly overwhelming in the best way possible! All of our vendors came together and made our wedding day so special for us!
What advice do you have for couples planning a San Antonio wedding? I would say shop around to find exactly what you are looking for. Try to include everyone in this process; they are just as excited as you are. Make sure you pick a time of the year you know where the Texas heat will cooperate. And most of all have fun! This is a time of celebration and two families coming together, it is all about the soon to be husband and wife, enjoy this time and make memories that will last a lifetime!
