Elizabeth Gonzales & Matteo Gasparini
Hometowns: San Antonio & Houston
How did you meet? We met online, on match.com. See, online dating does work!
Tell us about the proposal. Matteo made a book and gave it to me for the one year anniversary of our first date. Each page had a photo chronicling a different moment in our relationship, with a caption under each photo asking “Remember when [the photo] happened?” The last page had a picture of him on one knee holding a sign saying “Will you marry me?” while the caption read “Remember when I asked you to be my wife?”. At this moment, he got on one knee, told me how much he loved me, took the ring from his pocket, and asked me to marry him! I was totally caught off guard and so happy at the same time!
What inspired the design or theme of your wedding day? We wanted classy and elegant, but simple and nothing over-the-top.
Why did you choose the venue and vendors you did? Living in Houston, we knew we didn’t have the time to look at different venues, caterers, chair and linen rentals, etc. and needed a turnkey solution for the many wedding needs, which is why we chose a hotel. The St. Anthony offered tremendous service with a beautiful ballroom and cocktail hour location that was second to none. It really hit the theme we were going for. For music, we saw Cap City Band perform live in Austin, and they were not only talented but performed songs from many different eras and genres. We thought this would work well for the reception given the range of ages in attendance, and they played classics and jazzy numbers during dinner and early in the reception and moved through the decades to the top 40 as the evening progressed. The dance floor was packed! Ann Oettel came on a recommendation from the St. Anthony, and we were thrilled with the number and quality of the photos we received and how easy it was to work with her. And Angie with Evember– the bouquets were gorgeous and the table centerpieces were all different with the perfect balance between candles and flowers that we had asked for. Finally, the cakes from Creations Cakes not only looked great, but tasted even better– get the lemon cake!
What were some of the most unique elements of your wedding? Given our Mexican and Italian heritages, we had the St. Anthony serve a signature cocktail that honored this mix– an Italian Margarita (or as we called it, a Margaritalia!). It had a little bit of amaretto in it and sugar-rimmed glasses instead of salt. We made cute signs to display at the bar, and they were a hit with the guests!
Did anything about your wedding exceed your expectations? All of our vendors were well-organized, and literally nothing went wrong. You hear stories about vendors not showing or something being totally different than what was ordered, but this went so smoothly that it allowed us to enjoy our wedding day and not have to worry about anything. We recommend all of our vendors! And if you choose the vendors we did, allow them creative direction. We told Angie we wanted centerpieces with flowers and candles and let her create them. We told the band to play the songs of their choosing based on the pulse of the crowd. We told Ann to shoot wherever she felt inspired at the hotel. It gives them the freedom and confidence to do what they do best, and allows you to focus on the thing that matters most: living in the moment and enjoying the most important day of your life!
