Laura Muras and Tyler Gillen
How did you meet? Tyler and I met in middle school. Although we were not enamored with each other at first, we began going on dates and found our opposite personalities did attract. We attended every homecoming and prom together through high school and continued to date through college. With every distance and new experience, our relationship only grew stronger.
Tell us about the proposal: I proposed on our favorite spot on the Texas A&M campus, the George Bush Library. Laura's friends told her that they were going to take group pictures together since graduation was approaching. At that time, we were in a long distance relationship, so I knew I was the last person she expected to see. Once she arrived and made her way down the walkway, our family members kept stepping out from behind the pillars with notes and roses. I stepped out from the last pillar and led her to the gazebo, where I got down one on knee and asked the woman of my dreams to marry me.
What inspired the design or theme of your wedding day? We wanted our wedding to be romantic, intimate and special. Every detail was meant to be a little different. We love vintage style and wanted our guests to feel the beauty in our day.
Why did you choose the venue and vendors you did? We wanted a Hill Country venue that had the intimate, vintage charm that we were looking for. The Oaks at Heavenly was newly bought and renovated by Loretta Ortiz and they helped make our vision come to life!
We met and fell in love with Laura Memory Escobar Rothenberg in Raleigh, North Carolina for our engagement photos. She recently moved to Miami but was so gracious to travel to capture our wedding.
What were some of the most unique elements of your wedding? Our invitations were actually a flip book with details and accommodations on each page. The last page was a RSVP postcard you could tear off from the booklet and return.
We used dried flowers for the bouquets and boutonnieres. I was nervous they would be too fragile or too country, but they were beyond beautiful and so different!
From the menu to the pizza bar, s'mores, cocktail games, succulent wedding favors and guestbook globe, we planned every small detail to match our personalities.
Did anything about your wedding exceed your expectations? As soon as I saw Tyler at the end of the aisle, everyone and everything faded away. This was a celebration for our love and future and this moment completely exceeded any of our expectations. And it meant even more to us to have everyone who loves us be apart of our day.Besides finally becoming husband and wife, we were beyond pleased with how all of our planning and vision turned out.
What advice do you have for couples planning a San Antonio wedding? Don't be afraid to go outside the box! As we planned our Texas wedding from North Carolina, we stayed open minded about everything! Location of the wedding, vendors, details that may sound too different or too expensive, all of these things made our wedding so special. And, of course, don't forget what the celebration is about - the love and vows to each other.
