How did you meet?
To quote Rihanna, "We found love in a hopeless place". Tony had just gotten home from deployment from Iraq. I was poolside north of San Antonio trying to figure out how to approach dating in a whole knew landscape of technology. We both fearlessly swiped right and had an amazing first date, 3 years later we were married.
Tell us about the proposal:
Tony and I love to try out new restaurants and decided to dine at Bliss. It was a quiet Wednesday and after dinner Tony insisted on taking a walk through the Pearl. We stopped by the water fountain and Tony turned my attention to the surrounding architecture. I couldn't quite see what he was pointing at but when I turned around, he was on one knee. He was saying how much he loved me, how our journey has been unique in its trials, and this is where our memories deviate. He insists that I interrupted him with a "say it!" but I remember him taking an incredibly long pause which caused me to worry and ask him to pop the question (lovingly). Either way, I say said yes!
What inspired the design or theme of your wedding day?
We wanted to have our wedding date as close to our anniversary as possible, thus a June wedding. Since we were having a summer wedding, we wanted to highlight the colorful culture that is San Antonio and my obsession with florals. Our rich berries, fuchsia, blush and coral color palette infused our invitations, to our decor and florals.
Why did you choose the venue and vendors you did?
After viewing many locations, Hotel Valencia Riverwalk had a personality unique to San Antonio. The upscale classic Spanish aesthetics appealed to both our Filipino and Mexican backgrounds. The boutique hotel allowed for an intimate gathering and personalized experience by our Catering and Conference Manager Araceli Garcia. All our vendors were detailed oriented, with strong visual representations and communication. They were consummate professionals.
What were some of the most unique elements of your wedding?
Father Mike had a wedding at the same time we had originally wanted our ceremony. We still wanted to enjoy the amount of time Hotel Valencia provided on our wedding day, so we flipped the order of our day and began with our cocktail hour. We opted out of the traditional wedding party and were accompanied instead by the children of close family members.
Did anything about your wedding exceed your expectations?
The communication and coordination of all our wedding vendors especially of our coordinator Nicolette Orozco and hotel event manager Araceli Garcia. They kept us on pace with our detailed timeline, flexible when needed and allowed us to really enjoy all the planning and none of the worry.
What advice do you have for couples planning a San Antonio wedding?
Talk through variations of your vision and compromise. Be genuine and it will set the tone for the outward expression of your love story. Focus on what is important to you, prioritize need to haves and leave the want to haves for later.
