Adrianna & Kevin
How did you meet? We met in high school in study hall our senior year. We didn’t talk much in class at first, but that changed after we met at a mutual friend’s birthday party. After the party, we began talking more and more in study hall, eventually exchanging numbers. One day, I texted Kevin and told him I liked him. He tried to blow that message off, but not too long after, Kevin asked me to wear his football number at the girls’ powder puff game. A couple days after, he asked me to be his girlfriend and we have been by each other's side ever since.
Tell us about the proposal. On March 11, 2017, we headed home back to San Antonio for my father’s 60th birthday party. We gathered the family at Longhorn to play Pokeno. Longhorn is my favorite place of all time and Kevin and I made it into the family’s “spot”. Everything happened so fast. Kevin asked me to go get him a refill and when I came back to the private room, we were going to start the game. I explained the rules of the game to everyone and then passed the deck of cards over to my best friend, Jackie. When I sat down, Kevin said the words “before we get started” and I immediately see all these phones facing me and my heart starts to beat out of my chest. Kevin turned to me and asked me to marry him. After I caught my breath, I said yes! It meant the world to me to have both of our families there for this special moment.
What inspired the design or theme of your wedding day? This bride is a naturalist and loves rustic and earthy feels. As I started to look into wedding decorations, the rustic ideas were more on the Western side, so I began to search for more vintage ideas. I loved the vintage style, but still wanted more of an earthy look, so we decided to meet in the middle and ended up with a Rustic Glam themed wedding, and it was perfect!
Why did you choose the venue and vendors you did? The Chandelier at Gruene was the first venue that we visited and it was love at first sight. It fit our Rustic Glam theme perfectly. It had the wood and natural feels, but added small pops of glam throughout the chapel and reception hall. Originally, I wanted an outside wedding, but Texas heat is so unpredictable. The Chandelier's ceremony chapel is what sold us. It is a fresh-air chapel, so it allowed me to still get the outside feel, but a "safe" outside feel. Also, Myra (the owner) was perfect! She alleviated all of our concerns before they even came up. I highly recommend the Chandelier to every single bride, no matter what theme you're trying to go for. Some venues often need a lot of decorations in order to bring it to life. However, I am a minimalist and this venue was drop dead gorgeous with or without decorations. Lastly, the bridal and groom’s suites were amazing! For the other vendors, we utilized feedback from the venue. It came down to vibe and fit. We went with the vendors who were patient and professional, and who we felt like we could trust.
What were some of the most unique elements of your wedding? Instead of doing the traditional candy bar, we did a popcorn bar and incorporated our wedding colors as the popcorn colors. The popcorn was such a huge hit with our guests. I think one of the most memorable parts of the wedding was our violinist/musician. Almost two months later, guests are still raving about how great he was. He was unique because he played a lot of classics and today's hits to appease all age groups.
Did anything about your wedding exceed your expectations? My photographers and videographers exceeded all of my expectations. Throughout the entire day, from getting ready until the send off, they did everything they could to make sure everything was perfect for us. They hyped us up the entire time!
What advice do you have for couples planning a San Antonio wedding? Three Things: 1) Get a wedding planner/coordinator. For someone who works full time, it was very helpful to have someone to coordinate all vendor meetings and keep track of our planning progress. Our coordinator also made sure to keep us on objective. Wedding planning can be very overwhelming and we often drifted away from our theme. 2) Top 3 - Choose the top three things that matter the most. It is different for every bride. My top three were: food, photography and venue. This is where most of our budget went to and really helped us prioritize. 3) Do not stress! Make sure that you're surrounded by people who will make sure that no bad news, stress or harm will come near you on your wedding day. This day is all about you, and this day goes by so fast. Try your best not to waste time stressing because the day will be over before you know it.
