Brittany & Cameron
How did you meet? Cameron and I were introduced through a mutual friend. We will forever be grateful for her! After Cameron and I met, we realized we both had the same UTSA Chemistry professor, but at different times. Since he had the 8 a.m., he started attending my afternoon class and we began studying together and hanging out more. Needless to say...we created chemistry in Chemistry class!
Tell us about the proposal. The number 18 was significant to Cameron and I since it was our dating anniversary date and a lucky number in the Chinese culture. One day, Cameron has asked if I wanted to have a dinner date that Friday at one of our favorite restaurants, Piatti at Eilan. This dinner date just so happened to fall on November 18, 2016. Friday came along and we were at Piatti enjoying our date and finishing up dinner. As we were waiting for what I thought was the check, our waiter brings me a large silver wrapped gift. Looking at my surprised and confused face, Cameron tells me it's an early Christmas gift and that he couldn't wait to give it to me. As I open the gift, I find it's a beautiful new Celine handbag! As I am admiring the purse, Cameron gets up and reaches inside the bag to grab a silver fortune cookie. He then gets down on one knee and proposes to me with the ring inside the fortune cookie! As we left Piatti, I walked out to Cameron and I's family waiting outside to celebrate with champagne and dessert afterward. It was all perfect!
What inspired the design or theme of your wedding day? Cameron and I's couple style inspired the theme of our wedding. I instantly knew I wanted a classic, yet modern black tie wedding. I chose some of my favorite colors—black, white and silver. I also knew I wanted a hint of blush, only in the floral arrangements. From there, I gathered different elements from real weddings and my personal vision to help create my special day!
Why did you choose the venue and vendors you did? I had a specific vision in mind and wanted to choose the vendors I knew I could trust to help accomplish that for me. As for the venue, as soon as we walked into the St. Anthony Hotel, it was no question that both my mom and I knew it was THE venue. The formal style elements from the lobby going into the ballroom matched our theme perfectly. Choosing the rest of the vendors came easily and mostly through word of mouth. It was also important to me in the vendor selection process that aside from being able to work with my ideas, they would provide an amazing customer experience.
What were some of the most unique elements of your wedding? My favorite would have to be the baby's breath that lined the aisle floor of the church. It was such a unique element and it created a beautiful impact in the church. I also absolutely loved how my guest seating chart came out. It was a floor leaning mirror with calligraphic guest names surrounded by bouquets of roses and floating candles— it was exactly how I envisioned. Since my husband is half Chinese, I wanted to incorporate that while still matching our theme. So, I had black and white monogrammed fortune cookies made as our wedding favors. We also surprised our guests during dinner by having a traditional dragon dance show. I think it's safe to say everyone enjoyed that! Lastly, my sweet parents surprised me with a large flower wall as the backdrop to our DJ, an idea I had mentioned throughout the planning process. It looked so beautiful and was the perfect final touch to our ballroom!
Did anything about your wedding exceed your expectations? All the vendors I worked with exceeded my expectations! From my bridal salon to those involved in our ceremony and reception, they truly helped make it such a positive planning process. It is such an experience planning for months with your vendors and seeing it all come to life on your wedding day.
