How did you meet?
The story of how we met isn't extravagant or full of dramatic detail. We met during our first fall semester of medical school in our student lounge. We got to talking and grew fonder of one another. We dated and became official during the spring semester of our first year. Short and sweet.
Tell us about the proposal
It was our fourth and last year of medical school. We had already gone through the residency match program and knew we were Temple, Texas-bound together. We were celebrating all the good news in Hawaii at Waikiki beach! It was our fourth day there, and we were up early and ready to go on a hike at the enchanting Manoa Falls. It was pouring rain up at the mountain, but that made the hike a more aunthetic Hawaiian rain forest experience. We reached the Falls themselves which were beautiful in their own right, but the view was obscured by the tourists who had the same idea we did. We took a left just before the Falls-completely off the beaten path. We hiked and hiked, up and up. There were deep puddles forming as the rain continued falling. Approximately 2 hours later, we reached the summit. The rain still came, but the sun peeked through. The clearing at the top was so peaceful and quiet, minus our huffing and puffing from the trek. We were drenched in rain, sweat, and mud. It was there in that spot and at that moment that Matthew got down on one knee, and after a brief speech, very simply asked if I would marry him. I said something along the lines of, "I can't believe it! Did you have this planned the whole time?!". Of course, I quickly said "yes!" after my initial moment of pleasant surprise! It was the most perfect moment. No photos were taken. Nobody was hiding in the bushes. It was just the two of us.
