How did you meet?
It was the evening of April 2, 2016, when I arrived at a local wine bar with a good friend. I had just come from a wedding and was feeling pretty melancholy since I had about given up on love. Just down the road, Gerard was out with friends where the entire evening he was telling them how happy he was single. His life was coming together, and he couldn't be happier. As fate would have it that night, he and his friends arrived at the same local wine bar. I took one glance, and my heart was beating faster. After a few minutes of staring into his soul, he walked over to say hello. I can't put into words how amazing the connection between us was, but it was electric. Four years later, our chemistry has intensified; our love is unconditional, unexplainable. God has chosen us to experience this rare love together.
Tell us aout the proposal:
It was my birthday, and we were out celebrating with friends. We had dinner reservations and tickets to watch an Americana band that Gerard and I love, Shaky Graves. It was the perfect setting surrounded by people we love. He had a cake made for me with the words, "you are my everything." Gerard was charming in organizing the entire evening. At the concert venue, Gerard gathered our friends to make a speech, and before I knew it, he was on his knees with tears in his eyes. He looked at me and said, "I love you. Will you marry me?" I grabbed his face and gave him the sweetest kiss. It was a spectacular evening! Oh, and I said "Yes!"
What inspired the design or theme of your wedding day?
We love the New Year holiday, so we decided to get married on New Years Day. The theme was inspired by the holiday season and the love and joy it brings. We envisioned a New Years' themed, romantic winter wedding surround by fresh green garland, white roses, candles, and gold sparkle throughout the venue. We got married at sunset, and it was the perfect setting.
Why did you choose the venue and vendors you did?
The venue was gorgeous! The clear windows throughout made it look like we were in a snow globe. The emerald green and white carpet brought the outside indoors. It was romantic, elegant, chic, and the perfect place for our New Years' romantic winter wedding. The vendors we chose were aligned with our vision, and did a spectacular job at bringing it to life.
What were some of the most unique elements of your wedding?
I believe some unique elements of our wedding included the grand dining room table that sat only 18 people. The white tool laid over our chairs beautifully. At the same time, the eucalyptus flowers added a lovely winter touch and accent to the chairs. The centerpiece was 75 feet of fresh garland and white roses. The staggard vases on the dining table lit up while they held the tall gold branches which brought height and elegance to the table. The gold charges and custom champagne bottles with our name and wedding date were a touch I wanted to add. The ceremony spot where we stood was also a unique element. The fresh garland and roses enclosed the space where we stood for the ceremony. The white lanterns alongside us lit the area creating a romantic space for us to express our love to each other.
Did anything about your wedding exceed your expectations?
My sister, dad and best friend did majority of the decorating. So when I entered the room I gasped with excitement. They brought my vision to light and it was beyond my expectations. I have never seen a more beautiful setting.
What advice do you have for couples planning a San Antonio wedding?
Keep it small and consider only having the people who are closest to you. Your next-door neighbor at the home you grew up in who you haven't seen in 5 years should not be on the guest list. Too many people require you to be pulled in a hundred different directions. Don't worry about pleasing everyone; you won't no matter how hard you try. This day is about you and your husband, so be prepared for those tough conversations and don't let anyone influence your decision. Create a budget, and don't let Pinterest overwhelm you. Don't worry about the sign-in book, and the elegant knife to cut the cake. Save on cost where you can and spend your money on a fabulous honeymoon. Also, don't forget to breathe and enjoy the moment. It will be gone before you know it.
