Stacy Kirk & Glenn Franson
How did you meet? We met at the Blue Box in the Pearl Brewery. Glenn had a friend in from Austin for a golf tournament the next day and I was there with a group of friends for a going away for a friend getting deployed.
Tell us about the proposal. Glenn proposed after 2 years of dating in New York on New Years Eve. We had dinner at Triomphe and took a carriage ride around Central Park. Glenn proposed in front of Papillon restaurant (we also have a papillon)! It was such a special night! We had been dating 2years!
What inspired the design or theme of your wedding day? Glenn and I are always inspired by old-world charm and opulence and a time when things were simple yet elegant. We also wanted to incorporate our appreciation for Art Deco, and the St. Anthony Hotel provided the perfect platform for our special day. We loved St. Anthony Hotel and how it was renovated! The elegant grace and style is what we loved most. Our wedding was black-tie and it was amazing to see everyone in their tuxes and formal gowns. We kept the wedding small, very intimate and elegant.
Why did you choose the venue and vendors you did? We chose the St. Anthony Hotel because of its historic San Antonio roots, elegance, and Art Deco design elements. We carefully selected vendors after vetting companies who were referred by recently married friends and performed additional due diligence online.
What were some of the most unique elements of your wedding? Our wedding was 10/6/16, which fell on a Thursday. I had to have a numerically balanced date, so that is why we picked 10/6/16—the numbers were balanced and ended in an even number: 10+6=16! We also wanted to be married in a year that ended in an even number as opposed to an odd number. This is a very lucky date and number in many cultures, but it happened to fall on a Thursday so we chose to have a midweek wedding. We are also proud of our very intimate guest list of only immediate family and closest friends—70 guests we couldn't imagine spending our special day without. And we commissioned a beautiful handcrafted ice sculpture that became the focal point of the ballroom. The illuminated structure weighed more than 600 pounds, embossed with our names and monogram. Fresh flowers adorned the sparkling masterpiece and were a nice touch by our florist Melissa White from Botanika.
Did anything about your wedding exceed your expectations? Many of the details exceeded our expectations! Our band Johnny P and The Wiseguys played standards and classics during the dinner reception; they were amazing! Our wedding planner Melissa perfectly executed the coordination prior to and on our wedding day. And lastly, our guests traveled from many different states to attend our midweek wedding, and we are extremely grateful for that!
What are your favorite memories from the day? My favorite memory was during our first look when my husband-to-be turned around after I tapped him on his shoulder and our eyes locked. It was like meeting him for the first time again!
What advice do you have for couples planning a San Antonio wedding? Give your guests a taste of the local culture, and when available, use local vendors. Be confident that San Antonio offers all of the amenities a bride and groom could wish for. There are many great wedding resources here in San Antonio, and you can rest assured that there is no need to travel outside of the city to find the perfect dress, decadent cakes, or fresh and unique flower arrangements. Finally, take it all in! This special day happens only once and you want to be able to recall all of the great moments for many years to come. This is your day, it's about you, so enjoy it and don't stress about the small stuff. No one will notice the little things that don't go perfectly flawless except for you!
