Tony Ferro is a creator, artist and designer who also happens to be an accomplished florist and lead designer of Ambiance Floral and Event Designs. He first started the business eight years ago with a partner who’s since retired and now works closely with his sister Joann Luna. The family duo has a talented team of designers who work with them, creating wedding designs specifically unique to each of their couples.
“We work to create anything we can for brides,” Tony says. “Everything we make is unique to the bride’s theme and colors and nothing we make is ever the same.”
Ambiance takes ideas and makes different floral containers or artful backdrops no one else has had. Everything is done in-house and the team can create almost anything a bride and groom want, like the 3D Dalmatian topiaries Tony made for one couple’s ceremony.
From bouquets and boutonnieres to the ceremony and reception, Ambiance does the florals for entire events, designing unique looks and special pieces such as vases or wooden containers cut and crafted by Tony and his team.
The artist and floral designer started drawing and painting at a very young age, then worked at a flower shop before starting his own business. He’s not a trained florist but has honed his skills over the years and established his own style. Joann has also become an integral part of the company.
“We have fun,” Tony says. “This isn’t really like a job. The people who work with us are like family. We get the job done and enjoy doing it. When you have a relationship with the people you work with and when you find someone who works really well with you, it makes the job fun.”
During consultations, Tony listens to his clients’ ideas and then offers his own guidance and concepts. All of the ideas are then combined to create the couple’s dream vision. Tony draws out ideas on the spot and then following the meeting creates intricate color drawings offering multiple perspectives of the event. These proposals are then shared with the couple.
“I like to have face-to-face consultations and provide the bride with drawings so she has a visual because we can talk to them all day long but they won’t necessarily know what they want until they can actually see it.”
On the day of, Tony likes working with the event coordinator and other vendors to create the best and most seamless experience for his couples. When he can, he prefers designing any of the cake florals in order to create a consistent look throughout and also makes sure everything is clearly and specifically labeled when he delivers the florals so the couple or team setting up knows exactly where everything should go.
He’s a perfectionist—and that just might be the secret to Ambiance’s success. Tony is even considering adding lighting to his wedding packages, which already offer perks and make budgeting easy for his brides. With lighting, he’ll be able to offer the complete package and have even more control over the overall look of each event he works, allowing for the most cohesive final design.
The bottom line is: Ambiance does everything in their power to bring brides and grooms’ visions to life. For one couple who wanted to get married in Colorado but couldn’t, Tony hand-painted birch trees and created paintings, like a backsplash placed behind a sitting area and a mural behind the coffee station, to make his couple feel like they were in Colorado.
Tony enjoys the one-on-one experience he has with his clients. “We become friends with our couples and build relationships,” he says, which is how he’s able to create designs so unique to each of his clients.
